35x10.5 on 3rd gens?

Hello all, I have some 255/85 Maxxis bighorns and love the pizza cutter look, but I blew out my cam bolts and didn't notice until it was too late and I have some pretty bad tread wear. I would just get another set of Bighorns, but they've gone from 189/tire to 250/tire. At that point, I'd rather go up to 35's and I've seen the Kenda Klever rt 35x10.5 for about 250/tire as well. I think this would be a good option for a couple reasons. Being skinnier would help out with clearance, so maybe not a full firewall tub. Also, at 63lbs, they're as light a a Falken Wildpeak MT 285/70r17...so maybe I wouldn't have to regear either? I live in mostly flat area and most of my off-roading is beach driving, forest service roads, and occasionally a road trip up to the mountains to oVerLanD. I know 35's are not a necessity for what I do, just want to hear some people's experience with this tire size. I have tried to ask Facebook groups and I have used the search button to no avail. Just wondering about
1. clearance
2. gearing

Thanks for the help.

Not many people are running that size tire on here. Most of the reviews I've read are on Jeep sites.

To check clearance cycle your suspension and check your current clearance gaps with a scrap piece of 2x4 or 2x2. The 2 inch side of that is actually 1.5 inches and will give you a good idea of what/where you'll need to clearance for a 35x10.5 tire. The radius difference between 255/85R16 and 35x10.5R17 is about an inch.

You will definitely notice the larger diameter tire due to the rpm shift from factory size (30.6 vs 34.8 inches) The narrower width and less weight compared to a 35x12.5 are helpful but you are still looking at around a 15% drop in rpm at any given speed. Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure if it's acceptable for you/your driving style/terrain is to try it.

I agree with the 2x4 trick. Bad luck told me to do that going from 265/75s to 255/85s and it was extremely helpful showing roughly where it would rub
