3rd Gen 2002 4wd Acutator Part Numbers (01-02)

Here are the two Beck Arnley part numbers for the center two switches for 01-02 4runners.
BECK/ARNLEY 2012327 for the rearward switch
BECK/ARNLEY 2011788 for the front switch

You can test them but I decided for the price it was worth swapping out 16 year old switches.

Did this completely fix my problem? No, it did not but the symptoms did improve. The next step is to inspect my front actuator and solder the motor connections or even possibly replace the unit all together.



So Ive got the blinkey 4wd indicator and decided to start with the two center actators since there was nothing else obvious with vac hoses ect... replaced the forward(toward the front) actuator with the Beck Arnley 201-1788 switch. Plug and play.. same switch and now the 4wd seems ro DISengage like it should however it still blinks and blinks trying to engage.

Wanted to replace the rear actuator and, found it was not the same as the front. It will not thread into the hole and the clip is obviously different.

I called my local dealership and they tell me I need parts 84222-35080 for the front and 84222-35090 for the rear one. All the picture I see of these parts online she the switch with a lead attavhed and it does not match what came off of it.

I am not against buying genuine Toyota parts but Id rather spend $15 than $100 especially if this isnt the fix.

Is there an aftermarket alternative to the 84222-35090 switch? Why does Toyota show this actuator with a lead??

If you have a multi-meter, you can test the switches before buying replacements. They should be a short in one position and an open circuit in the other position.

If the switches are operating, the actuator itself (either on the front diff or the transfer case) is more likely the problem.

Your question is a bit confusing. You are mentioning that you are replacing the actuator up front, did you replace the whole unit or just the sensor like your picture shows. Those sensors don't go bad very often, but I'd recommend you use a multi-meter and check it out. If those switches are all fine then I'd guess the front actuator is your issue. It seems to be what goes wrong on the later model third gens the most.

Havent touched the front actuator yet. Getting cold out...

Maybe the 01-02 switches for the center dif/transfer case are different than other years(?) but I found that the two center switches do not match what Toyota says I need.

Being a resourceful fellow, I found Beck Arnley part numbers to replace the two switches/actuators for a fraction of the cost of oem and at least I can eliminate those as being part of the problem. The problem has not fully gone away but that is another story. I do not believe there is a switch similar to what I pictured in the original post on the front differential.

Your dealership gave you a part number?! I stopped by my local Toyota dealership recently to try to get info on a part. After the guy finally accepted the fact that I was at the parts counter to inquire about a part, he reluctantly looked it up for me. The only info he would share about the part was the price. When I asked for a part number he just looked at me and bluntly said no
