3rd Gen 4runner Bumpers

Hello,

I'm new to these threads and new to owning a spectacular 1998 4Runner. I have a 1998 4runner SR5 auto and i am looking to do some upgrades. My local shop said i cannot get an ARB front and rear bumper which I don't believe. What are my possibilities for 3rd gen bumpers. Front (with winch mount) and rear. A picture is attached, 31 kelly TSRs which will be replaced by 33s and i have a 2 inch susp lift which will be replaced by a 2 inch OME lift.

You can get the ARB for the 95.5-04 Tacoma, and that fits with a little bit of modification.

Lots of options. Personally I went with addicted due to price and look.

Good question! of all the bumpers on the list, ARBs have been around the longest and seem to work the best with airbags.

ARBs are my favorite by far, I have one.

When I am ready to make the 3K leap. I am personally planning on investing in "Shrockworks" plated for the front and "Persson Motorsports" plated (Custom) for the rear. In additon to appearing to be very well built, they look like they will compliment eachother very well. However, not sure if they are compatible with airbags.

What kind of modification will i be looking at?

Mostly, you would need to cut off the front of the frame rails, and (optionally) weld a small plate to cover it (for increased strength when winching).

Thanks everyone. When it comes to the "toughest", where would you rank these bumpers. I do a lot of highway driving (~7000 km a month) and I want a bumper which can withstand a deer sized animal impact. Price isn't an issue.

I would not put 4xInnovations up there as the toughest. ARB is designed for hitting 'roos though.

Lol, kangaroos have about the same mass. I think I'll stick to ARB and make things work!

I have an Addicted Offroad front and rear. They are solid. Awesome easy install. Perfect fitment. The lines are perfect with the body and flares.

I'd say Shrockworks would be the toughest. Anyone remember that pic of that 4th gen that rear ended that van on the freeway? I can't find the thread with the pic... the 4runner was completely fine with minuscule damage to the bumper and the van was completely totaled to the second row seats.

Yeah, that's exactly what I had on my mind when he was asking about strength. I think there was one with an xterra too.

A buddy in my off roading club has a shrock works on his FJ. I was able to examine the back of it to inspect bracing support structure. In my opinion it was well made and should be much stronger than my 4xinnovations bumper is. Hope that helps as you consider this. However I think there are two items to consider since you said your concerned about animal strikes: the structure behind the bumper and the stinger/tube design above the main bumper. In my opinion the ARB bull bar is the best stinger design for animal strikes because of the way it employs bracing on the central vertical members. I'd include pictures bet that's hard from my phone.
