3rd Gen 4Runner Push Button Start System

I was actually waiting for a reply from both dirtdawg and metalmiller ... lol I just had a hunch to check the site again, if metal miller can get to my area anytime soon, I can get this going pretty quickly.

I actually might just open up with a group buy to save everyone money, depending if I get a test unit to verify it works.

And I will make sure to check this post daily, sorry for that fella's

Sorry bud, been at camp. Ill get that photo asap

I still don't have a test vehicle, that's why he is prob bumping.

I would lovveeee to get this out to the 4runners, just need a guinea pig :)

Ah. If people were interested in this, I would have been shipping push button start kits two weeks ago. From the thread response, only 2 people are interested....

but good luck

I have separated from the military and now live in TULSA Oklahoma, I will be willing to work with someone to get a prototype and working module of this running for the 4RUNNER, must be local, and willing to dedicate some time to me having the vehicle (nothing crazy, most of my research and tinkering can be done without the vehicle) The donor will supply any materials to get project going (not tool cost, I have tools) and as such will have a working module at COST....and since I already did this with the xrunner, it should be no sweat doing it with this.

That goes to any type of vehicle. But of course I have a life, and commitments, so if a certain vehicle has more demand, it will get priority. (4RUNNERS Obviously.)

$80 from eBay. Uses RFID tags as a kill switch for power to the button.
You can learn new tags so instead of the big tags that came with the system I purchased a small sticker RFID tag and put in the back of my viper alarm remote. So my viper remote is all I need for a key. It just needs to be in range of wherever you place the antenna.

So you took the keyed ignition totally out of the truck? What happens if the push button isn't working...you're SOL? I liked moneyblind's idea for one as you keep your key ignition if needed...I do like that yours has an RFID kill switch though.

I may consider that, as I'm in Dallas and not too far away...

I did remove the ignition cylinder to disable the steering wheel lock but you dont have to. They recommend just cutting off a key and turning it to ACC. It's actually a slim push start button so you don't have to remove it. I hide the cylinder somewhere in the truck in case the button does stop working. All I have to to do is pop off the trim around the key and slide the cylinder back in.

Gotcha. That seems like a good idea to have. I was planning on leaving the key cylinder there, and mounting the push button to the side. Guess we'll see!

Thread resurrection #3728. Has anyone successfully accomplished this yet? There is a 2000 runner on CL here locally that has this and I want it done to mine!!!!
