3rd Gen 85k miles - What's it worth?

2001 3rd Gen 85k 2wd SR5 V6/auto very clean inside and out. The person is asking $11,900 and I think it's way overpriced. What do you think it's worth?

If it was 4wd it would hit that figure all day long and then some up here. But 4wd is the key. Seems like the spots that really put a premium on these rigs put them on the 4wd versions.
 
The highest I saw a low mileage 3rd gen go for was 8k in this area. However, it had 60k and was 4wd.

I saw someone has a supercharged one for sale for 12k in my area. Which means they dont want to sale it. ;)

You're saying the highest 3rd Gen you've ever see sell was for $8k in your area? Wow...that barely buys you an decent condition 4wd truck with ~150k miles in the PNW...

Yup.. This is because 90% of them frames are rotted out.. It was on Craigslist a few years ago and was gone in less then a day. The Rust Belt is hard on the vehicles.

Inflation is lower around here. Being are state loves to use Salt at the sign of any snowflake. The vehicles rot out here very quickly. Within less then a few more years. There will not be any left around here. That didn't have frame repair or replaced. Unless they were brought up from the south. Also, almost all of them are 4WD too. I have never seen a 2WD around here and would be more on the rare side.

LOL. The most overpriced I have ever seen was 2000 LTD 4wd with everything you can imagine, with safety, rust proofed every year, low mileage, serviced only at Toyota dealership with every possible cheque for 19 years, for... about 9K Canadian. And I thought that person lives on rainbow and dreaming ) He might be still selling it in fact ) :flypig:
 
Here in goergia, assuming flawless condition, yeah that price is right. BUT...start your offer about 3k lower and you'll meet somewhere under.
 
If it was 4wd and in California rust free condition w/85k on it it would probably fetch around $7-9000 here in Southern Maine. Where it is 2wd it would be a hard sell here at $3000. The only 2wd SUV's we see around here are owned by Navy or Coast Guard personnel from down south stationed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
 
Not having 4WD really diminishes the value of these trucks. Personally, I would never own an SUV that isn't AWD or 4WD. To me, it kinda defeats the purpose, and your money would go a lot further with a wagon or a van. But that's just me.

85k miles will definitely have the time capsule factor, but I personally wouldn't be looking at the truck because it's 2WD. IF I was going for a 2WD, I would have no problem picking one up with 150k+ miles but decently maintained example for around $4k or so.

Have to agree here- the 4WD is one of the biggest reasons people buy 4Runners. Least except for the mall crawlers haha.

This is not a knock on 2WD vehicles. They have their place, and they have their functions. I just think that if you are after a wagon-body vehicle that's 2WD, you're better off with a staion wagon, or a minivan. More cargo and passenger volume, more nimble, better MPG, and probably a better ride. The 4Runner, however capable as the truck is, you take a penalty on teh ride quality and cargo volume for being body-on-frame. Unibody vehicles allow for more creative ways to maximize interior volume.
 
You guys are so funny. If you think the ground clearance and suspension on a 2wd isn't valuable on running the non graded backroads of America; you really don't understand the 2wd models at all. The limited slip differential allows for those backroads to be traveled easily.

Now would a 4wd be an added layer of security for getting out of a bad spot or in snow? Yes; of course but it isn't necessary the other 99.9% of the time; at least where I live. If mud and snow are common where you live then I would agree; get the 4wd. If not; there are a lot of parts that don't get used but 'may' need to be repaired and carried around all the time as extra weight.

The reliability reputation of the Toyota T4R is the same for 2wd and 4wd. Please don't be a 4wd snob without understanding just how good a 2wd T4R really is; even with its minor limitations. Not everyone lives for bog hogging and rock crawling on the weekends.
