3rd Gen Accidents

Sound advice, I appreciate it. The front suspension seemed fine from what I saw (amazingly). It's just the whole passenger side dented up and maybe in. The one thing really bothering me though is the roof right at the corner of the windshield and passenger window is crushed in. I see no way of fixing that.....

It is more challenging. I couldnt see the picture, but You can drill a hole and pull it out with a slide hammer. Then massage it with a hammer and bondo. It may be more trouble than it's worth, but these 4runners really hold their value and are easy to sell. So I would try to slap it together and make some money on it if it pencils out.

Rollover at 45mph (speed limit was 60) due to crazy road conditions. Dry with random patches of ice.

And I just feel the need to berate the non seatbelt-wearing crowd for a moment. Your decision affects other people.
1) my insurance rates go up
2) the poor EMT has to scrape your brains off the pavement and go home to his family rather than patching you up and sending you to the hospital
3) A moderate impact can bump you out of reach of the pedals and steering wheel, taking a controllable vehicle out of your control and making a minor accident into a deadly one for you and whoever else might be in the vicinity.

The official word: It's totaled, insurance gave us a good amount so I'm on the market for a new one. Very slim chance of buying it back even to part out, damages were $10,000+. Here's a better picture of the damage:

Thats a bummer man. If it were a rare classic car I would say no problem to fix it. Just takes elbow grease. But its not that rare and since its your daily driver it probably doesn't make sense.
I wonder what they would charge for a buy back. For $500 you could make some money parting it. But it is a hassle. At least your ok, cheers.

I've been in 2 accidents in my 3rd Gens. The first one was a total loss ('98 Limited) on an icy bridge in Montana... my buddy was driving and I was alseep in the shotgun position. NOT a fun way to be woken up.

I bought an '01 SR5 and had it for a couple years before I hit a 6-point Deer. Doesn't look too bad in the pic, but that bastard took out my headlights, hood, bumper, grill, and I had to do quite a bit to get the passenger fender and radiator support back to square; but that's what facilitated the ODL bumper!

DUI driver decided to try and cross the freeway

319k miles without any major damage or problem only to be taken out by a drunk hippie driving a subaru. At least she had decent insurance. $2500 after buyback. Bent the corner down pretty good and mangled it a little but we are slowly but surely pulling it out. Radiator is a little bent but didn't crack. Optimistic.

The plastic mounting brackets for the fuse box broke. How hard would it be to replace the box? or better just to try and glue the mounts back on?

Deer are no joke! And elk for that matter!

I've hit 3 in my 86 runner while I was driving
And a buddy in his 92 3500 dodge hit an elk, I was passanger
Man, nothing is more disturbing then hitting an large animal, the sound alone is enough to keep you up at night.
I refuse to drive my 99 up to the mountains at night until I get my front armor on!! All my buddies jokenly call me "deer killer"

I was at Fort Benning, and my 4Runner was parked in a parking lot near Airborn School. Some staff sargeant was hot rodding and lost control of his Dodge Ram, and smashed into my '97 Limited. I couldn't believe it when it happened. He tried to claim his gas pedal got stuck. We both had USAA, and they tried to lowball me at first. I politely argued with them, asking for the valuation report on my truck. They apparently compared my Limited against other SR5s and base model trucks. When I asked them to redo it, they came back with a much higher number. I ended up taking the money and buying a lower mileage '99 Limited.

I got out of the Army not long after.
So after my '97 was demolished, the only vehicle I had was my motorcycle (2003 Yamaha R6). I rode it one weekend to go watch the Tennessee vs. Florida game (UT lost), and while I was up in Knoxville, I found a white '99 Limited. It had less miles than what my '97 had, and was in a little better condition. I ended up buying it, and renting a Uhaul to take my motorcycle back home.

Wow, he hit your 4Runner HARD to cause that much damage.

For sure. He knocked it out of the parking space and everything.

was your 4Runner the only vehicle he hit on Ft Benning?

Yes. Several cars parked there had already left by the time the MP called me and I actually snapped those pictures. You can still see a green car next to me, and a black truck in front. They didn't get touched. It's seriously amazing other cars weren't damaged.

Came home from 3 months at MCRD San Diego to the news my brother rolled my 2000 SR5 that i had plans to continue to build with all this new E1 money id saved up :thanks: RIP Tina

Ended up selling it for dirt cheap a few months before my first deployment. what a mistake. Who knew i would end up spending 6 months regretting that sell and buying another 3 months after i returned. Oh well. Hello Tina 2.0
