3rd Gen Accidents

Combination of black ice and driving too fast for the conditions. Left the road and rolled it into a tree down a hillside. Serious injuries but survived.

Holy hell! that's a miraculous thing to survive from. That's one lucky person, glad they lived to tell about it.

I made this thread yesterday and thought "wouldn't it be ironic if I crashed?" I had the worst dream yesterday night, and well, since I couldn't tell I was dreaming yet, thought I really crashed. This thread is giving me the heebie jeebies...

Those last few photos are making me think I need to get a full roll cage fabed up on the inside of my 4runner! Glad eveyone survived those wrecks.

This one's red, and not MY roll over. The guy I bought it from was heading up north to go camping from Miami when he rolled this '96 Limited on the Florida Turnpike. His pass. rear tire blew which caused the roll. He only suffered a few scrapes & bruises. Sux for him since he just did the timing belt / water pump, new A/C, Brake booster, 3" OME lift, ARB bumper.
Cool for me cause I bought it & am parting it out :)

Did he say why those new tires blew out? They look almost brand new, I can't imagine them blowing out unless they were underinflated or had a puncture.

Fixed his statement to you Topdown. a rear blow out is a lot easier to deal with then a front even at speed. Still good for you on being able to benefit on the parting out.

A few weeks back I had a dream I flipped mine on its side while working on it, but i pushed it back over and everything was fine, I didn't even think twice while dreaming, go figure

:wow2: Female drivers!

that's what killed my moms van outside our house.. and a sign... and a wall... and a cable box... and a mailbox...

Don't worry about watching past the crash, you just see her come outside followed by me and my dog and stuff.

She was on the far side of a large 6 lane parkway. A truck was stopped and she didn't see it. Instead of hitting her brakes or swerving (then correcting) to avoid it, she just yanked the wheel as hard as she could to the left. She crossed 3 lanes of traffic, hit a median and a sign, then crossed 3 lanes of opposing traffic (a MIRACLE here), hopped a curb, which broke her tie rods and destroyed her wheels/tires, then smacked a wall, crossed my neighbors driveway, taking out their mailbox (missing a Tahoe within inches) and hitting a TV, Telephone, and cable box, with enough force left to total my mom's minivan.

Female drivers...

Thanks!

The more complete story:
He went cheap and it did not pay off. Granted, there is still good rubber on these, but some cracking.
3 of the tires he bought used. One he just bought new. He should have bought all 4 new or a better used set.
I just removed these from my '99. They run like crap & bounce all over the place. I took it on the interstate ONE TIME. It felt unsafe and I vowed to only use this truck on slow roads until I can replace them.

He was on the turnike near Orlando. Right rear tire blew. He started slowing down. His rear end started to fishtail. He hit the brakes harder and he went into a slide. He over corrected and the slide got worse. When the right front tire left the pavement, it dug into the grass/dirt and caused the corner to corner roll over.
I noticed the ABS light was on whenever I would start the truck, so maybe a bad sensor or something...anyway, I didn't find out if the ABS system was working before the crash or not. Not sure if it would have made a difference or not.

Wow... just wow... was she too busy texting to watch the road? This is a fine example of why women shouldn't drive. :jk: (but not really)

First picture is of my Grand Cherokee rollover crash... got rear-ended on the freeway in really bad sun glare after I had slowed down to about 35, and got hit by a guy going 75 or so. Tried to swerve to the right to get out of his way, but he nailed my left rear end, lifted me up and rolled me, landing upside down on top of him.

Took my insurance settlement and bought my first 3rd gen, and less than a year later, some moron ran a red light and totaled it. Got a lot of moral support from the guys on this forum while dealing with that. It still amazes me how little of a crash it takes to total a truck. Took that insurance check and bought my current 3rd gen, which is the sweetest truck I've ever had :D

Wow dude! that Jeep crash is crazy!! You must have had a good ol fashioned headache after that. The 4Runner thing blows too, but I bet you got your white one more equipped, huh?

I don't see nothin...

Here's my rig after losing it during a VERY heavy snowstorm leaving Killington VT.
I pulled out my phone to call and say I was headed home and before you know it, zoom, I fishtailed and shot straight into the side of a big VT state plowtruck. :lookout:
Stay off the phone behind the wheel, people. Trust me.

I was able to drive it back to my ski house and had it towed ~200 miles to my local auto body shop.

Ouch! Did the plowtruck driver even notice?

Not really. It was a big full size Mack rig and I actually T-boned the huge fuel tank on the side of the frame. All I did was tweak the step on top of and sort of around the tank. There is a reason why there is a saying that goes "Built like a Mack Truck".
The State of Vermont never even pursued my insurance company.
~$8,000 in bodywork and I was not considered at fault because of the snowstorm. I am actually better off, since I got a new Koyo radiator at ~45K, greatly reducing the chance of a Pink Milkshake in my ownership.

I had a 91 Pickup that my dad bought from a buddy for $1500. It had sat in their backyard for about a year so it needed 3 new fuel injectors as we started driving it on a regular basis. So we had about $2000-2500 invested in it. Well it just happened to be friday the 13th. Actually it was November 13th so it will be year ago next sunday. Crazy. Anyways i just dropped my girlfriend off at her house after we went to a football game. I was on my way home and i was driving down a four lane road at about 45 mph. I was passing through an intersection in the left lane of the two lanes going in my direction. This guy decides to turn left at the left and pulls out right in front of me and i slam into him. If your familiar with a 91 pickup, there are no airbags. Thankfully i ALWAYS wear my seatbelt, and you might say 45mph not to bad but it deffinitely could have been bad. the spare tire falls out on the ground from the impact which was crazy to me. I got knocked out, and was kinda loopy for a bit. Im 6'3 so my knee is right up against the dash, and my knee slammed into it, and the key barely knicked the top of my knee and cut it abit. it was very sore and swole up pretty bad but all is well. Sorry this is so long if you get this far. Well to the point, they gave us $3700 for the truck*totaled* and my dad talked to the insurance company and said look, we cant really find another Decent vehicle with that much is there any way you can help. well since i was quote unquote *injured* so we wouldnt sue them, (cause the guys license was suspended btw) they asked how much do we need? and my dad said $1600, and they wrote us a check on the spot. Those two lump sums together paid for my '99 Silver T4R SR5 which we conveniently bought from my girlfriends dad. It was all downhill from there....
*Sorry for the long post im sure you didnt want all the details, i just dont like leaving the whole story untold.* Thanks for your time.

From this. Sure miss that truck. Was really a good looking truck.

To This....

If you look close you can see the steering wheel bent into the dash*after market steering wheel*

New to the forum, dont really have much on my on profile of my truck, but plan to get it going soon. Hope ya enjoyed the story, God really blessed me with a newer better vehicle and not to mention the pickups A/C was shot.

So this happened to me back in Oct. 2007... So i skipped class with my gf (at the time-no longer together) adn she dropped me off at my car and so i was leaving the school parking lot and some re**** with a ford bonneville comes and T-bones me. I had the right of way and after hitting me he tries to drive off and finally stops after about 5 ft and im out of th 4runner. He comes and begs me not to call the cops but fortunately the campus police are actual city cops so he is arrested bc i found out that he didnt have insurance or a driver's license. Wat a DB and well this all happened my freshman year in college which sucked but glad his entire front end was annihilated!
