3rd Gen Cupholder Swap - Question about Rear Heat

I have a '98 SR5 with the rear heater, and I wanted to do the cupholder mod on it. I was just at the junkyard today and they had a cupholder, e-brake assembly, AND the bracket from a '99 4Runner with the same color interior. I was just about to buy it, when I noticed that it does not have the rear heater / controls.

My question is do I need to find a console with the rear heater controls, or would it be relatively easy to put my rear heater controls into the new console?

I was so close to finding one that would work.... frustrated right now.

I got one without rear heat controls, I just cut a hole for just the heater switch. you dont need the lever to go back and forth since it is mainly for heat.

Would this be the way you would recommend doing it, or should I just keep looking for a tan one with heater controls? I don't understand how the heater would still work if it had no knob/lever.

This is what I did. I have a 98 Limited and installed a 00 center console and 02 shifter console. My truck now holds 2 cups by the heater/AC controls, 2 cups by the shifter controls, 2 cups by the ebrake, and 2 by the rear heater controls. Total of 8.

Ok, I have to ask... how much drinking are you and your front seat passenger doing that you need 6 cupholders? :cheers:

^ That looks like a bit of overkill for my cupholder needs. The traditional cupholders by the vents are already broken, so I have to drink everything out of water bottles.

If I were to get a center console from one of the following: 1999-2002, would the console with the rear heater controls be a direct plug-and-play?? Should I look for one of these years over the others?

I have a tan, 5-speed, SR5 trim if that makes any difference.

if you want to ensure true plug-and-play, then from the donor vehicle you need to get the center console, e-brake, tub, and mounting bracket...

I have 3 little kids(7 total), but who's counting. The wife brings milk and water cups for all 3 kids. Plus the cup holders by the heater controls gets my Clarion DVD player wet. So I don't use it, only when have to.

The checker board thing on the bottom is just a rubber mat so of I put something in there it won't slide around. If I was single and didn't have that much kids, it would of stayed the OG.

Thank you for that link - I had come upon that before and it was one of the most helpful. My main concern is this: I am getting a console from a 1999 (I found one at a local yard WITH rear heat, finally), and I am going to get the e-brake assembly, bracket, and console from the 1999. However, I want to know if I need to modify the bracket for the '99 in order to fit that console on, or if I need to find a bracket from a 2001-2002 (like the guy in the link) in order for my '99 console to fit. I'm guessing the only reason he needed to find the gold piece with the yaw rate sensor was because he was using a 2001 console?

Just get the rear bracket that comes with the console. No mods. Unbolt 2 10mm from the body and use that.

I know it's an old thread, but for future reference, you can just cut out all the shapes for the heater control, switch, vent outlet, and a bump shape in the floor on the passenger side. It's finnicky getting the shapes right, but that's all you have to do is just cut and shape 4 cutouts and the parts all stay right where they were and everything still works and looks ok.

I just installed a '99 console without heat in my '96 with heat. No problem. Just care getting the cutouts the right size and shape, and particularly, get the height of the cutout for the heater slider correct, because the slider is bolted to the floor, not the console. Just measure from the bottom edge of the console to bottom of cutout, copy from the old console.
