Thank you so much for reading if you chose to do so!
I have little to say but it holds much importance!
I am looking to purchase my very first SUV, and I have really started leaning towards the 3rd generation 4runners. With this being my first car that I have purchased I want to make sure it's a good buy. With that said I want opinions from others, if they believe a T4R is a good first car.
Thanks

Absolutely but like any vehicle you need to take care of the preventative maintenance if you want it to last. Check which items may have already been done by previous owner but plan to put a little work into it yourself too. When properly taken care of these runners can last well over 300k

I think it is a great first vehicle, Good drivability on the road, And off road. You can sleep in it pretty damn comfy, And if you keep the maintenance up it will last for years.

Thanks for the reply tre9er! I will do so when purchasing a T4R, I am so nervous about buying one because I'm not sure what to expect but then again I'm very excited!

RedSled thanks! And for sleeping I will take that into consideration! Btw nice picture of san diego! I can see you have the hilton halfway in the picture! I stayed there not too long ago! Any other advice on 3rd generations would be awesome!

For sure I would recommend a 3rd gen. Not because I'm biased but because they are very reliable if you take care of them. If you can find one with 110 k or less you should Definitely consider the buy. If you like manual you should try a 5-speed. I wish I had one because it unlocks a lot of performance and probably will do a manual swap in the future. But it's your preference. I definitely think you should get a T4R. Hoped this helped

Andrew,

No. It's a horrible car. You'll hate it.

The vehicle's body and chassis were designed and engineered 16+ years ago. That said, these vehicles were produced during what many consider the peak time of Toyota reliability. Decent gas mileage, but I just came from a 100 series so I might have false sense of fuel economy. 3rd gen 4runners are narrower than any equivalent currently on the market. Fatties don't fit. Maybe that's a plus. Toyota sold a ton of them so parts are plentiful and cheap.

I liked my old one so much I just bought another one after a 4 year hiatus.

Too bad we can't make neewbs where they can't post until they read and comment in that 3RD GEN info sticky.

One of the Passat forums I'm on has done that. I think it would be a great idea to do here as well...
