Hey all this is my first post. I found this website a week ago and have been glued to it since. I have been making plans for mods to my 98 limited T4R. My first question for this forum is about lockers. My 4runner doesn't have any but I would like to install some and was wondering if there was a good thread some where to kind of help me figure out what I need to buy and how to install some lockers. Also where can I find some lockers to buy.

But in all seriousness, what type of locker are you looking into getting? Air locker, E-locker, or a lunchbox. Your budget will also determine the best locker for you. There is a lot of threads on this forum that do talk about it already.

The main option is to swap in a factory rear elocker or do an ARB air locker. There are other options too like lunchbox lockers like Lockrite or Aussie lockers.
Before we can make a recommendation, what do you use the truck for? Mostly on road daily driving? Do you offroad alot?
If you don't have a whole lot of wheeling experience, i would recommend to hold off on doing a locker and put it towards suspension, tires, and armor first. Not having a locker will teach you to be a better wheeler and how to pick the right line.

Thanks guys. Yea I just got some new 33" inch tires and lift, struts and what not and was kind of thinking I should go with lockers next but maybe armor would be more appropriate at this time. I haven't not done alot of wheeling in my 4 runner yet but am planning on headed out this weekend for a good romp in the wood with my new set up.
In tearms of experience though I have done some extreme wheeling in my old honda accord :naughty: and have been able to get up a few roads that were recommended for 4X4 only

I'm actually in a similar boat as you. I just got my lift and 35's done and now i'm looking for my next mod. Mine are going to more suspension related such as a new steering rack, the extendable panhard bar because the OME kit didn't have one, the HD cv's ect. ect. So keep in mind, theres more to your suspension then just the lift.

Get some skids and sliders first and then wheel it like that for while. Lockers are overrated in my opinion.
Good point. Perhaps the better question for the forum is where do I begin on making my 4 runner a good off roading beast to get me to those hard to get to camping spots while still having the ability to do freeway driving. Like I said I so far have put a 3" lift on new struts and shocks with 33" tires (I'm not sure if that was the best place to start but now I am motivated)

What lift kit did you install? Like he said, Skids and sliders will help you a ton; keep you from completely wrecking your rig. I really just suggest browsing through members build threads and reading. One of my all time favorites is ChildrenofBodoms. Just read through and it'll help you get an idea of what mods are available, how to do them, what their purpose is. At least thats what I do and I feel like it helps.

x2. Sliders, decent tires, and some toytec suspension will get you just about anywhere with a good line

Get lockers as a last resource, unless you just come across a killer deal, like a ARB for under $4-500. Other wise yeah like others stated, armor up the rig, sliders and full skids, it will save you money in the long run. And buy a winch before you buy a locker. A winch will get you out of and through what lockers got you into...
