Where can I find this thread? I have a 98 Limited where the factory HU is broken (not just no bluetooth - it spits out CDs too). I'm starting to search Ebay for a T1819 and want to know how to install it.

Try and get one with the two adapter cables.

Edit. You need the -AD and -CH cables and possibly a Y antenna adapter with the small antenna to big antenna adapter. The (both) antenna adapters can be found in my 1997 SR5 thread.

There should be a Scion head unit thread started in our 3rd Gen. There is a large thread started in another section but it's for all generations of the 4Runner and you need to pick through many pages looking for info that pertains to our model.

Huh. Coulda sworn there was one and I posted in it when I put in my Scion radio. I even wired in an iPod cable.

OK, not an iPOD cable but RCA jacks out the back for the AUX input. I think I then added an iPOD-to-RCA adapter under the console.

I have the T1819 in my 97 but did not trim the center panel yet. And now I'm thinking of putting the T10015 or T10071 in for the touch screen, NAV and backup camera option.

Would one of the later model NAV/GPS touch screen double din units plug right in or would adapters and additional stuff be need to make the navigation work?

If you have a scion unit already installed and the center panel is trimmed the touch screens (T1818 included) use the same CH and AD adapter plugs plus the USB and MC (microphone cable for bluetooth talking on your phone)

there is actually a connector kit that runs around 100 dollars that gets you the CH, AD, and USB........ but the USB isn't a direct plug into a usb device. there are aftermarket USB cables for Toyota that have the correct gender usb end on them.

I'm going to complete the total install of the T1819.....then look for a -00140 or -00160 touch screen radio that isn't 450 on ebay.......The engine is in the project 97 of mine. hopefully by the end of this weekend I'll have the engine running and can finish the radio stuff.

The "Ultimate Scion HeadUnit (stereo) thread" has much info but its spread out over 17 pages and it includes all 4Runners, not just the 3rd Gen.........so its a lot of reading to pick out the stuff pertaining to our generation 4Runner.

USB socket question

will a socket like this that's meant for a 4gen 4runner fit or closely fit our 3rd gen where the block off plates are on the lower dash? rather than have a USB cable out on the open I'd like to put it in one of the dash inserts to clean things up a bit for my T1819 install. other than that its all done.

No, they do not. I bought a light bar switch that said it was for 3rd Gens, but was definitely a 4th Gen switch. I wanted to keep it so I cut out the middle of the knock out plate and fit the new switch in it. Looks fine but was a long process and I would not do it again.

There's not much out there in regards to 3rd Gen switches and such.

I ordered charger with USB and will cut it into the empty plate in center console. It should fit depth wise.

23x39 is the 4th gen size I believe, that is the size of the switch I bought. That's the most common size you will find.

What about a round connector to replace one of the two extra 12V charger ports instead? You can get USB/aux in one round fitting that should work there...

I did think about a round USB adapter. I didn't see a round port like that with a USB charge and USB audio.

I'll say I'm so stoked about puttin this radio in the Toy so much, I'm looking at newer OEM radios for my little crap box 2002 Saturn SL1. I spend two hours a day driving to work and home. (1hr each way) The satty gets 44mpg. So that's my primary work vehicle. The Toy is extra credit and kind of wanted one for myself after doing all the work to my wife's two 4Runners. (My 97 puppy hauler thread, and the totaled 96 before....)

My install is done. Everything on the T1819 Scion radio is functional. From Bluetooth phone calls and audio streaming, to the USB "iPod" music control. It's just a matter of cleaning things up. (Finding a permanent home for the USB cable and figuring out where I want the microphone for the Bluetooth calling.

Buying a better condition center console trim panel and doing a better job of opening the hole for the bigger radio is in the future. I'm close to looking factory look now..........

So after a week of using the radio I must say its nice having everything I normally use in the iPhone while driving at my "beck and call" holding the "call" button in activates Siri. I haven't tried to send or read text messages using Siri through the radio yet. But I bet it will.

Edit. It does,I just sent my brother a text using Siri through the radio.

Here is the USB port mounted into the blank plate.

All that's left is wiring up the charger part and finding a location for the microphone.

Any suggestions on the microphone location?

Turns out, for $55 you can have an AUX port put into your OEM head unit. Also doing this on my wifes 2009 RX400h
