I've got a 170 lb tent that's had 2 adults and a 60 lb dog. No troubles.

I guess I've put as much as 500 lbs on my roof, bunch of lumber. I run a heavyweight 32ft and 24ft ladder stacked on top full time and put a minimum of 1,000 miles per week. Although I have 4 oem cross rails instead of just 2. The ladders are long and there's a little flex but it is holding up good.

Sequioa gobi rack on 4runner
Im looking to pick up a gobi rack for my 3rd gen and saw the mention of the sequoia rack possibly fitting a 4runner but saw no reply to the thread to confirm/deny.
Anybody have any details if the larger sequoia rack would fit?
Anybody have a full length gobi they want to part with in northern CA?

Its your money, but Gobi doesn't have a good reputation around these parts. Google them in this 3rd gen section. If you decide to go that route be prepared to give them your money and have no real expectations when you're finished product will actually get to you.
Personally, I would look at https://www.rockymtnracks.com
They make a great looking and functional RR. They are a small independently run outfit and put a fair am out of thought into the functionality of the roof rack.

Hmm, have to take a look at some of the other racks as well. Seen some of the other posts on the lawsuit, kind of a shame. And the three months wait. Part of my motivation to find a used one.
Im looking for a rack I can load some plywood/lumber on without crushing the roof. The deck feature of the gobi seemed nice to have lunch and option of tent/sleeping bag, but not sure I would really use it.
Seems like the rollo and baja racks are much cheaper but not the same level of construction. Wondering if they will handle (or could be reinforced ) the same load as the gobi.
Was thinking to possibly go with the rollo and mount direct to the rails with some extra angle iron or aluminum rails to beef up the strength similar to a post I had seen on the forum.
