3rd Gen Tacoma Suspension Installed

I could not find any info on the 3rd gen Tacoma springs so i thought I would post my findings for anyone looking to try it.

The spring/shock assembly came off of a:
2017 Tacoma TRD Offroad Double Cab

They were installed into a:
2005 4runner Sport Edition 4WD V8

Lift Amount
(Measured from Center of Hub)
Before the lift I measured in at 18.75"
After the lift I measured in at 21"
Lift amount= 2.25"

I have owned all previous generations of 4runners and this is my first 4th gen. It has almost 500,000 miles on the clock.

500k Mile V8 4runner

I put 2015 (I believe) TRD Offroad front struts on my 04 V8, which upon my research are 2nd Gen, I'd be interested to see if the part numbers for 3rd and 2nd gen are the same or not. I saw a similar amount of lift upon initial installation but they settled about .75-1". Were those measurements after driving for a day or so, or were they right after installation?

After everything i've put it through. Gold mountain, big bear, moab, utah... it still measures nearly 21"
It may have settled 1/8" since the initial measurement, but that still puts me at just over 2" of lift.

I have heard plenty of people mention that the 3rd gen tacomas are 1" taller. So perhaps its true and the math is adding up?

I would expect slightly more on a V6 model?

AHHHH this makes sense, I'll keep my eyes open for 3rd Gen ones to pick up a little bit more lift on top of my 2nd gen ones. That would certainly explain the smaller lift I got than expected, likely due to 2nd vs 3rd gen.

Hey man, I found your Dirt Complex youtube channel before finding this forum post today. I thought the video of your trip to Utah was great!
I am planning to swap out the front suspension on an 03 v8 limited with 3rd gen tacoma shocks and springs, but was also planning to swap out the rear shocks with new bilstein 4600s sized for my model 4runner. I am hoping that the front tacoma springs will give enough lift in the front to level it out without lifting the rear. I have rear air suspension so all i want to do is level the 4runner by lifting the front.
Questions for you, did you leave your rear suspension stock? Did installing the tacoma springs level out your 4runner ( I was worried that this might make the front higher than the back)? How has the suspension been working for you so far?

I put 2nd gen Tacoma coilovers with .25 top plate spacers on both sides on the front of mine and it ended up just about level.

I’d imagine 3rd gen coilovers would add another ~1” and put you slightly nose high. It’s also hard to tell though because if your 4Runner has original suspension it’s going to be worn out so heights may vary slightly.

I added some cheaper Rancho mono tube shocks (good for ~1” or so of lift in the rear) on mine paired with Eibach 1” rear coils and it now rides fantastic. The ride with the stock coils was kinda squirrelly.
