What are we looking at here? Was this a factory option for a 3rd gen or is this a Subaru part inserted into a different than 3rd gen custom map light housing? If this a Subaru part what models did they come in?

This was an option in the Japanese market 4Runner (Hilux Surf.) However, the same exact part was available on a Subaru Forester of the same vintage in the US, except with different units (F vs. C etc.)
