Since my runners 3.0 has blown head gasket & over 333,000 miles, I am seriously thinking of getting this motor. http://www.ebay.com/itm/201027524807?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648

Before I order, wanted to see if anyone has any experience with the his motor/company?????


& no I don't want to do h 3.4 swap. Don't want to mess with all the fab work required to put it in nor do I want a 3 inch body lift just to fit a motor in. I need the truck running as soon as possible since its the only vehicle I have. :doh:

What so high performance about it besides the oversize valves? Seems like a regular reman 3.0 to me. I live in Portland but have never heard of that company. If you want a killer engine company, look up portland engine rebuilders.
 
As mentioned the only "performance" upgrade is the utilization of a 1mm oversize valve. There is no mention to compression ratio increase in the piston they use leading me to believe they're stock in that regard. The overbore of .020-.040 isn't a significant enough increase in bore to change the power characteristics of the motor. No mention of airflow improvements (i.e. porting), no mention of more aggressive camshaft profiles. It sounds like a typical rebuild with 1mm oversized valves. Hardly worth the claimed horsepower increase, especially with the stock engine management.

In all honesty, this type of misleading advertising would be a sign to steer clear.

I'd stick to a reliable and reputable engine builder known to produce quality over some mysterious "Hi-Pro" rebuild thats being sold on eBay. The fact you can't find anything on them should be red-flag #1.
 
what I really like about it was the seven year 70 thousand mile warranty. The suppose it'd power increase with only a fraction of what I was looking at.

and yes I want to be sure to purchase from a reputable company that will actually stand behind their product. I will mostly be using the 4runner as My daily driver and light off road use vehicle. Off Road will be Mostly fire roads, logging roads, open desert, etc.

Well, all I can find is lots of people asking questions about several Portland engine builders & lots of negative about at least 1 of them that screwed a ton of people then changed names. But is possibly using many different company names including PAC, Portland engine performance rebuilders,, Raptor, Pmcmachine, Motorcrateengines, Pacific engine sales, etc.

That said, I'm going to use Sunwest automotive out of Spokane Wa. http://www.sunwestautomotiveengines.com/lb.html
Going to get a stock spec 3.0 The cost is 2300 + 200 shipping.
UNLESS anyone has had bad experiance with them.

You sure you are looking at Portland engine rebuilders, not Oregon engine rebuilders? Oregon engine rebuilder has been known to change names in the past. Portland engine rebuilders has a A+ BBB rating and have been the same shop since 1972.

eta - wow, Raptor is definitely CHS Machine, same "about" pages and same 800 number. I considered getting a reman 22RE from them, glad I didn't go that route!

I can't 100% verify all of what I posted.

Info is from what other people posted on a bunch of other sites: BBB page, yotatec, several other non Toyota forums & several of the companys web sights did the indeed have the same phone #, same warranty info, & or hi-pro info . CHS suposidly bought out several other local company's according to a news report I found as about complaints. (But no names were given)

To error on the safe side, I figure I'll just not use any Portland based company that was mentioned. (Again, the ones I posted were found in other posts as questionablely being related to CHS) I can't afford to take a chance with that much $$$$. I'm on a fixed income, So a Loss of a couple grand would take a year or two to recover from! The only way I I even have the $ to do the motor is because I sold my other vehicle so now the 4runner is now my only vehicle.
 
Should have my motor from sunwest. By Friday the 11th.….. I be sure to let everyone know my thoughts...

Will start my build thread & post pics
