Hi there fellow 4th gen owners,
I've owned my 4th gen for about two weeks now and just got finished with a swap that some people might be interested in. My 07 V6 received 255-75-17 tires and from previous experience I knew I wanted slightly lower gearing to make up for the increased tire size. After having done so, I'm very happy with the combo.
I ended up just slightly lower geared than stock; with 265-65-17's and stock gears I was turning about 1750 rpm at 60mph, and with the 255-75-17/4.10 combo I am at about 1950 rpm at the same 60mph (indicated). I haven't yet used a gps to see if my speedo is accurate. The 4.10 gearing seems to be a good fit for the tire size, and in my case were done very cheaply utilizing a second gen tacoma front diff (4cyl, 5 speed) and a first gen trd tacoma rear third member (4.10 gears and an e locker). The housing needed to be modified but that's not terribly hard (and well documented elsewhere).
The only tricky part for me was that the first gen tacoma 3rd member utilizes a smaller drive shaft flange bolt pattern than my 4th gen 4runner did. I happened to have a yoke off of an 80 series land cruiser front driveshaft that has the same bolt pattern and accepted a stock replacement u joint, so I was able to swap this yoke onto the rear of my driveshaft and still have all commonly available, and OE toyota parts. I would imagine the small pattern driveshaft yoke is fairly common among other toyota models, but I don't know for sure yet.
Just wanted to share some info in case other folks were looking to do a similar swap.
