44" light bar install on the roof rack

Someone on the forum was sharing their light bar install and looked like a great idea. I'm not gonna lie I am doing it for looks more than function. Hopefully it will have function too... The unit I bought on Ebay was/is a deal..

The bad news it doesn't fit in the spot I hoped it fit on my 06 limited. It almost fits just needs a bit 1/4" or less is my guess...

Some new progress on the light bar install

I had to shave down the end caps to make the damn thing fit between the rails. I used a file geezz it took forever....

Now....there is a high point in the center of the roof... I am not 100% sure the mounting center holes on the end caps will line up with the roof rack slots.

I just set the light on the roof and gently tapped between the roof racks tight fit...

I honestly don't care if I scratch the roof with the light a little but I don't want the light to push on the roof so much the sun roof leaks....

I will keep yall posted once I figure out a way to mount it. Need to figure out how the roof rack cosmetic caps come off to start the mounting process...

Seems to be mounted well now haven't test driven yet

The light wedges pretty tight but if you try and move it with a good amount of force and tapping it will move just a bit.

The washers fit perfect in the rack rails almost centers it (very slight up and down movement)

The light does push down on the roof in general. I think it will be fine the sun roof works fine. As I tightened the rack rails down I watched the roof line just in case but again seems fine I will water test it one day or get rained on hopefully... TX needs the rain!! Again I am sure it's fine...

Haven't test driven the truck to check for wind noise etc...

For now I want to test drive the look but I will let ya'll know how I run the wiring etc...

Hopefully the local police do not frown upon the light. Honestly I don't want to get pulled after leaving happy hour or something like that.

BTW the roof rail caps pop off pretty easily. When you go to remove it grab it and push down and pull outward away from the truck to pop the outer side loose then then pretty much the same thing while that side is still loose push down and push inwards to pop it off, then straight up for the most part.

Are you sure you bought a 40 inch? I have a 40in and its about an inch to half inch short on both sides from the rails.

I think you got a 44 inch not to mention you linked the 44 inch bar

I have never had anyone point it out to me while standing by the truck they never even noticed it. Hell went camping in tennessee with my father and he didnt notice it until i used them to light up the area we were in

not too sure with Texas law but here in CA all front off-road lights needs to have cover on, but I never seem to have any problems (knocking on wood).

When I was searching on ebay I was using 40" light bar since someone on here already had good luck with those measurments...

No wonder I was fussing with the damn thing so much!!!

Id send it back and get the 40 in and do it the proven way by the writes up. I followed a members way on here but I wired mine differently from another members idea where there is no wire visible its all inside the cap out of sight ,mine doesn't touch the roof at all is secure

I guess I would send it back but I have fussed with it and filed down the end caps so it all mine now...

It's pretty damn secure but if I keep it I plan on installing one more washer or maybe even a rubber type washer but over all there is little to no movement but I need to put some miles on it in general and see how it holds up.

I think I have a wiring plan that will work awesome. Should all be hidden in the rail and end cap no problem.

I don't care about the roof getting scratched/pushed on a bit I plan on keeping this truck till it dies and it's my grocery getter so I don't obsess over it to much. I do want to take care of it but if something happens that's what insurance is for.... I have had nicer cars and when you daily drive them they tend to "drive you"

the bolt and washer that is bolted to the light assembly End caps are slid into the roof rack rail channel along with the extra tight fit. I had to take the front roof rail brackets/pedestals off then slide the light into the rail channels.

seems fine so far went about 75 mph no noticeable wind noise really. But tilting the sun roof is noise as hell. Sun roof open didn't seem to bad.

You said there was play in it correct up and down? after time and hitting enough bumps and potholes its going to work it self loose

It's still under construction but yes there is small amount of movement... like 30 to 40 thousands. The play in the light is the washer moving up and down inside the roof rail slide channel. I have a nylon bushing idea that I planned on implementing when I do the wiring. Once I think I have it finalized I will provide the parts I end up using. Honestly so far so good as far as looks and mounting. Not sure what function the light will provide in that position since I'm the only fool that bought a 44" light...

So how do you plan to actually tighten it once its inside the rail out of curiosity

I have yet to figure that out...

Right now the bolt is bottomed out tight in the light's end cap. The general fit with that length of bolt and one washer is pretty tight but again some potential movement since it's not cinched to the roof rack rail it's self. Again not sure I'd I can modify some old 10mm tool to use but I hope to figure something out.
