My wife is making her way from Fullerton, CA to Stevensville, MT in her 2014 SR5 she’s named Priscilla. The old gal rolled past 400K miles, so she made sure to send me a picture. Said she had long stretch in Utah where it was 20 mph on Interstate 15 with cars off in the ditch on both sides due to the snowfall.

It’s bugging the shit out of me, but I barely drive it. In contrast, my wife will continue driving it until it shits the bed, then I get the call. I did order the brushes for the old Denso alternator I have on the shelf, so that joins my lengthy project list.

you should make a youtube channel of all the repairs you do . 400k miles is in the rare territory for a 4runner. people will want to see how and what you do to maintain the vehicle

It all starts with doing the regular maintenance like oil changes and lubing drive shafts. That gets me under the vehicle and inspecting things. For example, caught a leak on the transfer case, so I pulled it and replaced the leaking input seal. Also found the rear main seal leaking, which was replaced when I was also replacing the transmission. Just regular inspections aside from what’s on the Toyota maintenance schedule. Also make sure the wife enters the shit in her log because I’m taking care of 5 vehicles and 3 homes on top of the day job, so I can’t track all this.

Wow good job! I only have 120K on my 2012 lol. I have been thinking I might need to replace the rear wheel bearings & seals.

Currently using Valvoline Restore & Protect 0w20. Have always used 0w20 synthetic mainly from Quaker State, Pennzoil or Mobil 1.

This is just an FYI, there's a mechanical engineer that goes by the nickname of 540 RAT that started ranking/testing motor oils back in 2013 or so and has continued to update the testing/info, last update was 12/24, he has no agenda, is not employed by any oil companies and doesn't receive any money for his testing.

He has a blog with all of the info on the testing, readers comments etc. if you choose to read it all....that being said the motor oil that holds his highest test results to date is 5W30 Quaker State Full Synthetic, it's what I been using in my 4th Gen V8 since I bought it in 2016 and read his blog.

Here's a link to his blog, warning you really have to enjoy reading, it's a lot of info!!

I work in professional racing, and have some high performance vehicles myself. No one I know is using Quaker State full synthetic 5w30. in those demanding applications.

Quaker State full synthetic 5w30 is a fine oil for an application where it's appropriate, but "Best", that needs some qualification.

As I said, 540RAT has been shown to not know what he is talking about. His 'testing' methods are a joke.

Again, the 'tests' he performs prove absolutely nothing in an internal combustion engine. The 'tests' prove only what he thinks works best in his 'testing' rig, which has no correlation to an internal combustion engine.

There are industry standard testing procedures for motor oil. His 'tests' are not those.

You stated that BITOG stated Qauker State Full synthetic 5w30 is "The Best". I asked you to link to the thread with that statement. You didn't.
Quaker State full synthetic 5w30 meets the specs of certain engines. It is fine for those. As are any other oils that meet the same specs. That does not in and of itself make one oil better than another.

If you want to learn about motor oil, read the link I linked to. Join the forum, and ASK your questions.

540RAT was long ago proven to be not worth listening to. There are hundreds of mentions of his nonsensical 'testing' procedures and irrelevant 'results'.

Look, either you truly want to learn about motor oil or you want to remain naive, and continue to listen to a charlatan with bogus tests and results. The choice is yours.
