Holy hell. I mean when I got towed out by AAA out on a dirt road, the tow company guy wasn't all too happy about doing and "offroad" tow and pulling me out of the mud, but $48,000?!?! Don't they realize how much bad press they're getting out of the deal??

It's the POLICE tow company. Those guys with police contracts have the thickest skins on the planet and thrive on the hate of ordinary human beings. They laugh at bad press.

It looks like the so called "towing" company bought most of their recovery equipments even simple floor jacks on that day!

That sucks! Last year I was talking to a guy that does recovery work in the Elk Mountains- a few years back a police chief was romping his brand new decked out Jeep Rubicon on the Lead King Basin loop, and(thankfully at the lowest part of the road) drove his rig right off the trail into the river. It had to sit there for a couple nights with water rushing over the hood before he could get his recovery vehicle out there. Totaled. Plus the recovery bill was like $10k. I couldn't even imagine trying to tow a vehicle out on that road.

Again shoulda had a 4Runner, I'm sure on jeep forums they ain't like "he was romping through the woods in his 3rd gen and drove into a river and it go totaled " It would be like " he went romping through the woods in his 3rd gen and drove through the river and got a free car wash"

Isn't a business supposed to give a quote for pricing before service? I doubt anyone would agree to pay a $48,000 service charge, unless its a scam from both parties.

4runner-holic: from what I saw the guy was arrested and so he didn't have a choice similar to if your car gets impounded
