4Roller Version 2 Build

Alright, so I haven't been on this forum in years. Last time was when I had my first 4runner, but it got rolled down a hill 3 times over and a new roof welded on but obviously it was never the same and I ended up selling it for practically nothing. It was nicknamed the 4Roller by all my buddies

Had a couple 4runners for a minute in between then and now but never held onto them long enough to do anything. But that finally changed the other day when I picked me up a 1996 SR5 with 213,XXX on the clock for a couple grand.

Plan is to make it like my first 4runner I had when I started driving.
3" Suspension Lift
2" Body Lift
35s
Custom Bumpers and Sliders
Rear E Locker

So first off, I want to replace everything that is worn out and change all the fluids so I will be doing that in between my work schedule

Oil
Trans Fluid
Diff Fluid
Cooling System Flush

Also will be ordering and installing when I lift it:

Steering rack bushings (poly ones)
Steering rack guide
Tie rod ends (inner and outer)
Ball joints (upper and lower)
Control arm bushings (upper and lower)

Just ordered my lift today,
D558 Bilstein front 5100 series shocks
Eibach/Toytec front coil springs 620lb spring rate
Front diff drop kit
Rear ToyTec 9602RC 3" lift coils
ToyTec Rear Boss Shocks

Im keeping the 16" steel wheels that came on it and I think I've decided to run 315/75r16 Falken Wildpeak MTs

Hopefully it should be doing a shake down at prairie city within the next couple weeks.

So pumped to be back in a 4runner!!! :cheer2:

So I finally got the suspension put on.
I have some questions though, the behavior of the 4runneris a lot different than I remember from my previous 99 (pictured above) but I bought that one already built so I'm not 100% sure everything that was done or changed on it.

The entire rig feels like it's swaying around, a lot like have a track At taken off on a linked vehicle. I checked everything twice and made sure everything was put back correctly and tightened down secure. The best way I could try describe this through text is it "wiggles" like a really excited dog when we it wags it's tail really fast. Feels like the front goes one way and the rear goes the opposite.

I also installed the 3" toytec springs in the rear which on the invoice it says there is a passenger and driver side to compensate for the 3rd gen lean, but when I took them out to install them there was no different in them at all, part numbers we the same and the height was the same.

Lastly, the steering feels SUPER loose now. And it kinda walks itself around while drive which I think has a little to do with the "wiggle" I mentioned above. And I know an alignment is in order but I'm waiting to get the new tires mounted before I go do that.

Any suggestions to help fix these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Alignment will fix 90% of the wiggles, and for me, I Went to Firestone for the lifetime alignment ($180) so I can take if back free for life of ownership.

The %6 wiggles will be pan hard, and end links needing lengthened

The 4% wiggles will be remedied with a thicker sway bar,

but most of us just live with the 10%

Thank you for the reply so fast, I just went and picked up food after I posted earlier and have been trying to notice if I could give any other symptoms to get this correctly fixed. I did notice that when I get the wiggle or get on the brakes relatively hard to come to stop and when I do stop it rocks the vehicle corner to corner (ex: driver front to passenger rear) and that is what I think I'm feeling when I get the wiggle while driving.

Is that because the panhard bar is almost "fighting" itself because it's too short now and at a incorrect angle because of the lift?

So small update, been super busy, haven't been able to get the body lift or the diff drop on yet since I ran out of time over the weekend.
I went to take a look at the sloppy steering situation I have going on. So I went to take a look at my steering shaft, upper and lower, to see if either had play. Upper seems to be fine and when I went to take a look at the lower I notice that both of my cv boots had grease coming out on both sides, so I got side tracked from checking the lower shaft.
So my question is, since I don't have another 4runner to look at, do the cv boots have any sort of clamp on them? And what would've caused this to happen all of sudden with the lift? I drove about 150 miles since the lift was put on. Would the diff drop not being installed cause this?

it's 99% common that when lifting, the CV's will start leaking, espesially if they are old... the rubber was 'used' to flexing at certain speeds and now with the lift, it's new, and well dies (croods humor)

Mine did the same, I just went cheap lifetime warranty napa CV's and am happy. time will tell.

I'm only running 2 inch lift, and no dif drop atm, and another CV is leaking now... so I think I will install my diff-drop here soon, then replace the CV.

How did you score that for only a couple of grand in Sac? That's a killer deal.

Might seem obvious, but have you replaced the sway bar bushings and end link bushings? Took care of all my body roll on my 98 after I bought it and put new suspension on it.

Yeah thats my next thing on my ever growing list lol
I actually had to drive to Dublin to pick it up, I looked at a few that were in Sac but all of them had issues with the 4WD so I passed on those.

Finally got tires, decided to go with the AT3 instead of the M/T.
So here they are Falken Wildpeak AT3 315/75R16.
Also took off the steps, fender flares and the lower valance on the front bumper. Only place its rubbing right now is the back of the front fender which will be address in the next couple days. I still have the body that might or might not go on depending on how clearances go.

That's funny, mine is from San Ramon. Our 4Runners must be related!
