Bought a 2004 2wheel drive for my 15yo when he turns 16. I need new tires but want to go a little bigger to give it a better stance. Planning on adding the Daystar leveling kit as well but that will be after the tires. I need to know how big of a tire I can get that won't rub. It is a SR5 2 wheel drive. Thanks!

Go 265-70-17 it will look great after the Daystar 2.5/1.5. That's what I did.

255/75r17 is another good size, and you can often find tires taken off of brand new Jeep Rubicon’s. I bought a set of 5 new BFG KMs for $500 on Craigslist.

My biggest suggestion is to get him a good set of tires. I didn't start driving until I was 18, but I know how I WOULD have been driving at 16. It's 2wd so he'll be staying out of the rocks, so I'd suggest Duratracs. Great all around in snow, ice, rain, dirt, gravel, mud (mud with 4wd, I wouldn't try in 2wd) 255/75/17 should be a good fit on a leveling kit.

Lucky kid. If mine stays out of trouble, shows good common sense, and is getting good grades by the time he's 16 I'll probably give him my build and start something new.

Remember you'll need an alignment after you install the leveling kit.

I installed my Supreme Suspension spring and strut spacers just before getting new tires because I didn't want to double dip into my wallet for an alignment.

My kit was a 3/2, and with some beefier tires (BF Goodrich KO2's here), it looks perfect.

I also picked up a diff drop kit (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X4PM3RQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), which I don't know if it was 100% necessary, but for $30 I felt it was worth taking the stress off the CV axels if they were left at their new drop angle. Simple enough install.

255/75-17 with Daystar! I'm running 255/70-18 with daystar and spidertrax wheel spacers. Needed to do some trimming/remove front mud flaps (because of spidertrax) but it looks awesome

Would also look into replacing sway bar brushings and end links. Are you in Buford, Ga or...?

As a 19 year old who built my car myself, I say let him do all the work and research. It would be a great learning experience and will mean a lot more to him when it is finished

But would go with the 265/70/17 or maybe 275/70/17 if you don't mind trimming the fender liner and removing mudflaps. I have the 275's with a 3/2 cornfed spacer lift.

I just upgraded to K02's with 265/75/16

they fit perfect. look great. and the car handles better with them.

SR5 can go 16" or 17" regardless of 2wd or 4wd. Sport and limited are both 17" only I believe. Comes down to caliper size.
