4Runner delivery hold

I placed an order for a white TRD Pro about four weeks ago, and was told that the dealership should receive it this week. I just got an email from the dealer stating that Gulf States Toyota has placed a hold on all 4Runners. Has anyone heard about this?

I ordered a white TRD Pro the last week of July. I thought my dealer was jerking me around because I was told on 9/9 that it should be delivered to them on 9/23 give or take a couple days. After emails and calls (I got kind of shitty because I wasn't getting a response, but the salesman was on vacation. Totally my fault) the manager called me and said it is sitting in the port. He said x amount of cars are pulled out of the deliver for quality control inspection and mine happened to be it. He said it might ship out today or it might be a month or two from now. Part of me is upset about it because I keep flip flopping on if I want the white or if I want to order the Inferno Red. I saw the red on a Tundra last night. I love the color, but I am not sure if after 2 months the general lee look would still be as exciting or annoying.

A "month or two" for quality control checking? Sounds like classic car dealership BS.

I could believe a couple of days, but not a couple of months.

Then again, what can you do about it?

Sounds like they hit their quotas early and are looking to get a head start next quarter.

I figured they were full of it. I asked what the reason was for the delay, but have not heard back yet. We will see if we get a new excuse to add to the list.

Mine is an sr5 premium not a trd pro so maybe different, but the dealer gave me an oct 31st date but today he called and said it was on a rail car in MT and would be to the dealer in northern MN on or before the 27th. So a little faster than they said at first.
 
I will give you a possible real reason: Railroads. Several railroads have been "playing" with cargo shipments and taking higher paying freight and putting established long contract freight on the back. This is such a problem one OEM just spent an additional $13M to get their vehicles TRUCKED instead of going by rail. Is it the problem in this case? I dunno but sometimes the DEALER is the one that gets the "excuse" from the distributor and then just passes the buck on to you. Ask me how I know...
 
You can add the following reason: "because of the dry summer, there is no water in the ocean ... the ship cannot leave Japan for the next few weeks" :bathbaby:

Could be, but in the case of the OPs situation(Gulf States Toyota - Houston Tx), I wonder. How far is the Houston Ship Channel from GST? I'm making the assumption the 4 Runners come in through that channel. Maybe someone knows otherwise.

Rail issues are possible. I think they might move the vehicles from the actual port to the yard by rail. My dealer said that GST would only say that it was on hold. I was just curious if anyone else was waiting on a vehicle from GST had any more insight.

Patience is not one of my virtues. Thanks for the responses.

Regardless of the BS the dealer hands out, the railroad issue is real. I just read (on USA Today IIRC) an article about this. There is a shortage of railcars and track space and the railroads are prioritizing higher-rate-paying traffic over others - specifically automobiles.

Mine came cross country via rail, and once on a railcar, the inventory no longer gets scanned into Toyota's database and is just sort of lost until it comes off and gets scanned again.

As usual, y'all should learn to listen to 1E, he knows all.

I can track a $2 part shipped for free from/to wherever.

A dealer can’t track a $40,000 piece of inventory that the parent company is paying to ship lol.
