4runner engine swap please help!!!

Just bought an 89 4runner with knocking in engine i was just wondering what the best route to take would be? I was considering a rebuilt 3.0 engine but have heard a lot of bad stuff about them maybe a 3.4 or 22re? I plan on doing a sas, lockers front and rear 33" mud terrains and a 5spd tranny. How much would the 3.4 swap be? or a 22re? thanks for the help

I don't know about price, but your best option is either the 3.4 or the 22RE. The 22RE will be the easiest, as it was the standard engine on this model, but you should consider that it's not very powerful. That said, the 22RE is legendary for being reliable and getting good fuel mileage.

If you got the money go with a 3.4 swap and if you wanna get really extavagent go with a uz1 swap from a Lexus sc300 big beefy v8 and toyota
