I have a 99 limited when did the 4runner change to the cannister type oil filter. I'm sure this has been covered but that procedure sounds way complicated.

Complicated? You spin it off, put a little oil on the new filters seal, and spin the new one on hand tight. Cant really get any easier.

maybe I am confused..i read that newer model changed to a cannister/filter type thing, not the threaded spin on..kinda like what GM is doing

All v6 3rd gens use the same oil filter which is your standard metal bodied screw on filter.

Our newer Toyota's (2011) use the filter cartridge in a housing that I think you are referring to. My mom's 2017 Camry uses the same cartridge style also.

Thanks for that reply I thought I read somewhere that owners of other generations were unhappy with the change.
I see they sell conversion kits to use spin on filters anyway thanks for your input.
