4runner sales double the Bronco

I can see why 4 Runner sales are up, or in many cases better than Jeep, or Bronco. I will say I have had two Jeep Wranglers and both I have spent very little money on, mainly because I keep them stock and do not do any upgrades to them which I see as making them a money pit. As far as the Bronco goes I have never really considered one, mainly because of the availability to get one at a reasonably price and I've never owned a Ford product in my life. I just purchased my first 4 Runner and after driving it for a week I can see why it is so much superior to the Jeep, it's not even close for me. For me the 4R will go anyplace I want to go which is not extreme off roading which I don't do anyway. I did go with a new 2024 and not wait for the new model in 2025, as I really like the "old school" of the 2024 model. I personally think the 2024's with the other earlier models will retain the value and owning one will give the owner good value for their purchase.

The fact that the current 4runner is almost gone is probably feeding into sales too. That was one thing that motivated me to pull the trigger. I don't want a hybrid, turbos, 10 speed auto, or more complicated electronics. It's a proven package.
Not a surprise. When Ford first announced the Bronco I was very interested, having owned a 1973 Bronco that I liked a lot. But wait times after ordering were 2+ years in some cases. Then reliability problems started cropping up...blown engines, front end problems. Lastly, the price. Forget "list price". Ford dealer in Reno had a few on the lot finally...each had a dealer markup of $20,000 to $30,000 dollars on the window sticker. Local dealer has a used one on the lot right now that I stopped to look at. "As is - No Warranty"...$90,000!!!

Well shoot, if that's how it's like for the rest of the country then that would definitely explain the 54% drop in Bronco sales compared to last year. Ain't no way in hell I'm paying $90k for a Ford!
Especially for a used one with no warranty!

If I wanted a Bronco I'd wait - they are only going to get better. If I wanted a 4Runner I would buy now - they are only going to get worse.
This is a function of failures by Ford as much or more of Toyota quality winning out
Ford's manufacturing is in shambles, they simply cannot produce enough of certain vehicles to meet demand. This is happening to the Bronco, Maverick, and Lightning F150. Meanwhile, there's such a glut of Mach Es that they're radically closing them out. This is a multivariate problem that really highlights the issue of succumbing to government mandates and a loud minority over the actual market. Toyota is proving why they're the best manufacturer in the world by staying conservative and with what works
On top of that, the American dealership model is absolute trash. Toyota is not immune from this problem either. The hidden costs, ADM, pricing things like its a middle eastern bazaar, etc are going to destroy the model (hopefully) in the long run. Its been almost impossible to get a Bronco without ADM for the whole run of the 6G. The problem for consumers is dealership groups have gotten their tentacles into state laws and the manufacturers and make it tough for direct sales like Tesla does

I can't believe the American Big 3 listened to Washington and believed what they said was going to work. Washington hasn't done anything that has worked in years, why would they think it would work now, there getting exactly what they deserve and lots full of vehicles that no one wants. How long will it take for the Big 3 to overcome their losses. I have to give Toyota a big thanks for keeping buyers in vehicles that they want and can use without fear of being stranded.
I don't necessarily disagree with some of your points, but Ford is clearly meeting demand and then some with the F150 Lightning. They've cut their target production now down to something like one-fourth of what they initially were targetting.
For instance, a quick scan of autotrader for 50 mile proximity to me in the east valley, Phoenix metro shows 293 (!) Lightnings sitting on dealer lots with some discounted in excess of $15K now.

The glut of Ford EVs might be a clue into the Bronco/Maverick supply problems
Also, i'm in the East Valley too.
Id like for the wife to pick up a bronco or next gen 4runner. Bronco is will be tad cramped with 3 kids in the back though. 3rd row in 4runner would help. The bronco is a nice suv, I drove a friends raptor bronco on a road trip for 200 miles plus and loved it.

I went by my dealer yesterday to pick up my license plates that were ready three weeks after I took delivery of my new 4 Runner. When I took delivery of my 2024 I had 20 to choose from, but three weeks later they only had 10 on the lot, I guess they are selling well. Sales person said, yes they are.

I just sold my 2nd Bronco this last weekend. They really are great vehicles that Ford did a good job with.
I've got two college kids that need summer cars and I wanted to get out of the large debt associated with a $50k Bronco. Back here looking at options for $20k used 4Runners or Tacoma's for my son to drive for the summer. Then I can keep it for me for the winter. This will be my second 4Runner also.
