4Runner Salvage

So out of curiosity, I was looking to see if there was a 5th Gen at a junk yard near that would mail out parts or allow for scavaging. I came across this wrecked 2010 SR5 for sale.

Although logistically it would almost never work, I couldn't help but think how fun it would be for a group of folks on here to buy this truck for next to nothing and let everyone strip off the parts they needed.

Again - probably not practical, but a fun thought!

Wow, 2000 miles, what a shame. Looks to have been hit by something big like a pickup.

Bet the owner is glad he/she wasn't in a Prius, et al.

Noticed the LR tire is destroyed ... the 4R must've been pushed sideways to have caused that. Quite a smack, I'd say..... and it didn't turn over.

Most of that will rub right out.

Great idea and definitely not practical.

I can't believe it only has a little over 2,000 miles on it and it has over $29k in damage. What a shame.
 
Wow, a $29k repair cost. Holy crap. From the right, it looks great. lol. I wonder what hit it. A train? bus? geesh, that's some serious damage. With only 2015 miles, I'd be sick if I was the owner. Granted, thats why we have full coverage - and GAP insurance!! I really feel for that owner, when I rolled my 3rd gen limited I was depressed for months. (A truck failed to stop at a stop sign and hit me going over 60 mph) No injuries to anyone, so that was a good thing.
 
Wow, that would actually be a great car to salvage for parts. Most of the damage is very well contained, and all of the expensive parts in the engine bay and drive line are untouched with only 2k miles on them.

I may actually consider placing a bid!

Interesting pics - and somewhat reassuring to see a 4R T-boned by something big like a pickup and that side curtain bags went off and that anyone inside wouldn't be too badly beat up, I hope.

Notice there's three others in there for salvage. Save the 4R's!
 
Wow, sad to see so many already totaled. :(

Some day it might be cost effective to buy one and resell the parts on Ebay or through the forums.

I know there are a lot of guys that buy complete Ready to run Radio Controlled cars then dis-assemble them and sell the parts on ebay. They easily get back more than they spent.

After these 4Runners are out of the warranty period, it will cost an arm and a leg to get replacement parts from the dealer so most will hunt on ebay and if you have a whole 4runner to grab parts from, hmmmm.
 
I would love to pick one of these up and pull the motor to build it for boost. Sell all the other interior parts, panels, and salvageable parts, any profit put towards a supercharger and then have a fully built motor and supercharger to swap over and keep my stock matching numbers motor intact with low miles.
 
Wow - you could almost consider that in place of an extended warranty if you do your own work. If the 5th Gen follows the 4th Gen pattern, the calipers and rotors plus the alternator alone would equate to the current bid and be worth having. If you plan on keeping a 5th Gen for a long time, the CAT is a high priced wear and tear item as well. Having seen the price of Toyota parts I reckon a new 4Runner is worth half or less what the parts alone would cost. Oh - and the windshield looks intact !

Believe me ,it will go for a lot more money then you think. People are out there that make a living buying salvage cars/trucks and fixing them up or selling parts.

Let's keep an eye on the auction I bet it will go well over 10 grand!

Well I missed what it went for but that site is interesting in terms of seeing how well the 5th Gen holds up in an accident.

.. supposedly had a rollover - I suspect those doors will never quite shut the way they did but it looks surprisingly undamaged - it's at 5,100 already with 2 days to go.

that is already up to 11k but that one looks to have pretty minor damage to the front wing, mirror and bumper (cannot really see why it would end up as salvage in fact).
 
So...I'm in the market for a SILVER HOOD W SCOOP.

I'm guessing that these salvage auctions won't do a hood "swap" with me lol. Anyone have ANY luck with salvage parts?

Try to find someone posting theirs in the classifieds. Plenty of Trail and Offroad guys who want to get rid of the dumb scoop. It blocks your view over the hood and throws glare into your eyes when the sun is overhead. I got rid of mine and never looked back.
