So I was still going back and forth with insurance on the final settlement price, luckily I had an auto-broker helping me by finding "comps" which are the determining factor of your vehicle value for them to cut the check. They were using way undervalued comps not even in the Denver/Colorado area so I was working to get $2-3k more before I took the check.
Once you take the check insurance owns the title to the vehicle, so if it's recovered they'll send an adjuster out for a new value appraisal if there's damage and then you have first chance to buy the title back for that updated amount.
Luckily I was still haggling with insurance and didn't have to go through all of that since I still possessed the titled.

Back from the dead...
Once again - much thanks for all the cool feedback and comments. Last 2 months I've been working with the guys at Car Toys to bring my 4Runner back from the dead. They handled all the interior work and also building the updated light bar bracket. Stripped out all carpet, seat covers, bleached and scrubbed the frame, then started from there.
Went with dark charcoal carpet (stock is really light stone for some reason), grey leather seat covers, added seat warmers for front and rear (back and bottom), and put back in an old Kenwood head unit that I had previously thought was toast but is working great now. Replaced the JL steathbox and upgraded to a newer amp. Luckily the idiots weren't aware of the Focal mids and highs in my doors so they were still there.
I've always wanted to add functional rear storage and not have to carry a big ass crate in the back, so since my local Car Toys had a really solid carpenter on staff I shared my idea and he was more than confident he could build it. I couldn't be happier with the outcome, they did great work all the way around.
While the crew at Car Toys was doing their thing I finally was able to get in touch with a local fabricator (Corey Sain @ Insain Fabrication) and get him going on a rear bumper replacement with combo tire and fuel carrier. He took a couple weeks to fabricate then had my vehicle for a few days to install. It worked out well that he was completed around the time Car Toys finished up so it felt like I was getting an entirely new runner all at once. Guy does really solid work and offers a 4th gen style that no one makes and sells online or by order.
After seeing all the black steel around the 4Runner I knew I had to do something about those alloy wheels, so in lieu of spending $1000+ on new ones that will just get beat up in the mountains I got a local paint shop to powder coat them at $60 per. Went with "kingsport grey" since I've always liked a little contrast between tire and wheel and didn't want them just to get lost in all the black.

Hope ya'll approve! It's been quite the range of emotions and a lot of time spent dealing with the associated BS over the last 5-6 months but all in all I couldn't be happier. Can't wait to hit the trails in a few months and hopefully kick it with some of you fine folks!

Unbelievable! A long road back but wow....beautiful. So glad you didn't do the wheels in black. As you said, they'd be lost with no contrast. Love it!

Wow congratulations. That thing looks great! Not sure I would have wanted it back after looking at the damage pictures. The refurbish is spectacular. :thumb::thumb:

They tried to do that to me when my 06 got totaled. I had just bought it 4 months before (had all the dealership pictures, etc.) and they were using V6 2WD SR5 as their comp vehicles and mine was V8 4WD Limited with almost all the available options. Their argument was "but it's the same car" and I told them that I want my money back that I overpaid because they charged me more to insure the V8 limited then they would have for a base V6 SR5 and silence lol They ended up finding some similar ones and I think I got almost $4k more.

Wow! Your rig looks amazing! Sorry you had to go through all of that non sense, but that outcome ain't too shabby.
Just curious, where did you get your wheels powder coated? Looking to get my sport rims blacked out too and I'd need something durable since I wheel as well.

Thanks Jim! Yeah I figured if I was going to experiment might as well do it with the stock wheels but I'm really happy with the outcome.
