4runner Tow Hooks - Recovery Points

There is a picture here somewhere of one front eyelet breaking but there was never any context on why it broke and I think it's the only broken one we ever saw.

the only ones i've seen are 4th gen, which isn't as stout as the 5th gen front toying eyelet

If you need those hooks you are likely doing stuff that will crush your tailpipe anyways. For those of us who cut our exhausts back the the axle it's a non issue.

um, what? lots of people offroad with the stock exhaust and never have a problem with their tailpipe and still need to be recovered from the rear

Well that's funny because I crushed mine three times and I've seen many times with others. Maybe we have different definitions offroad and recovery.

Well I never said it cant or doesnt happen, I said lots of people offroad without modifying their exhaust, probably most people

No arguments there. Just saying. You want the hooks you cut the exhaust. Didn’t mean to sound like a gatekeeper.

The exhaust isn't in the way on the passenger side?

I installed a Gibson exhaust and left the last piece off to make a turn down exhaust. Did a similar setup with my Tacoma.

Any chance you could post a straight-on photo with the hitch in the picture so we can get an idea of how much these hang down?

Considering this option but also have my hitch occupied so wondering if they will be blocked by my hitch setup. Thanks

Sure thing. I plan to hang a tree saver between the two hooks as a bridle and a snatch from that. I've got a spare tire carrier on the way.

20 bucks ey?

ARB would brand them and sell them for 250 and people would still buy them.

Right? I had the same thought. I have ARB front recovery points that I haven't been brave enough install yet and they are certainly beefy, but for 20 bucks a pop I had to try this out. They are certainly better than the stock tie downs.

I get using it in the front. I just don't get doing it in the back if the tow hitch is available.

For what its worth, I've done plenty of recoveries/pulls with the D-ring tow receiver setup in my old Tacoma and never felt I was doing anything risky. I just wanted to free the receiver up for more gear.
