4Runner versus Jeep!

Here's a shot of my buddy's Jeep parked next to my 4Runner... Both have stock lifts and I have a little bit more clearance!

Was cool to get a shot of the two big competitors side by side on level neutral ground...

I like Jeeps, but besides the clearance (and your bumper would add a little weight, no?) the second best thing for me is that the Runner fits a family, and is actually comfy in the winter.

If Wranglers were any where near as reliable as the 4runner, I would probably have one just because in my honest opinion, I think they are superior off road, and it's what they are made for.

I do like the fact that I can sleep comfortably in the 4runner and haul my 15 foot long kayak without any trouble on top though.

My '71 CJ-5 does not feel mechanically inferior. It will probably still be running when my two 4Runners are recycled into tomato cans. As lpng as you don't want to go over 60 mph.

All you need to do is roll down all of the side windows, slide sunroof open, roll down back window and voila! You now have something close enough to a Jeep! I'll tell you what though, I (yes, me personally) become less capable when I am uncomfortable or distracted by annoying issues. So, overall the runner is more capable for me than a Sheep. :bravo:

I love both Jeeps and Toyota Trucks very very much, for very very different reasons.

I still own both. You just really have to know which transmissions to avoid, and what mileage to not go over on those trans, and how to baby the electrical problems sometimes, other than that, I can't imagine my 318 dying before my 5vze, both very well engineered engines. And +1 to being fun to drive, the T4r is like driving a zippy mail truck, (without SC, and not that it's a bad thing) the Jeep is like a v8 Dodge Dart station wagon with 4wd, a roof rack and ground clearance...pretty awesome and damn fast.:boxer:

Off road, it's no contest vs XJ, ZJ, WJ etc. (exceptions would be TJ, YJ etc)

I don't know why everyone compares Wranglers to 4Runners, it's apples to zucchinis IMO. I used to drive a TJ base model with a 4" pro comp short arm and it really didn't do anything good except for flex. Underpowered and rode like a tank but it was still unbelievably fun to drive with the top down, was reliable nothing ever broke and I off roaded often. I loaded it down with camping gear and tied kayaks to the roof and took it out in the woods for the weekend.

Good vehicle but would never choose one over a 4Runner for daily driving. The 4Runner is capable enough off road for most owners, even most Jeep owners. it's much more comfortable on the street because of powerful engine options and IFS which is smoother on highways and transfer power more efficiently.

It's no rock crawler but it's a good dual purpose vehicle.
