When I was growing up there were two things I always wanted to see someday: fireflies and the aurora. Unfortunately at this point it doesn't seem likely that I'll ever get to see either one.

The problem is the season to see aurora is mostly winter. And you don't want to drive there during winter!!!
While I've never seen the Aurora either, I can tell that fireflies are really cool. As kids, my little brother and I would catch some, put them in a giant glass deli pickle jar, and leave them on the nightstand between our beds. Then in the morning, we'd put the jar outside without the lid, and let them find their way out. Then we'd do it all over again the next night.
How come you haven't seen fireflies? Arnt they in every forest during summer?

Grew up with fireflies. One summer evening when I was maybe 10 my father called to me to come outside. (we grew up in the southern Adirondacks mind you) to the north was the green undulating glow of the aurora. Very rare this far south. Must have been a strong solar event for that one. I hope to get up to the great white North to see them again.

Nope, not out here at the left side of the country.
I grew up with fireflies also and they were everywhere. However, we were mean as kids sometimes, we were kids don't judge me! lol. Sometimes used them as batting practice with my wiffle ball bat. You can always hit a sky streaking home run. Or do you know if you chop off the part that lights when it lights that it stays lit...and then you can smear it on your face in some manner and run around glowing in the dark. Yeah fireflies are cool :tea:

San Diego to Anchorage can be pretty affordable compared to plenty of other places. Round trip the wife and I paid $700 each in 2016. We barely saw the lights. Next time for sure!

haven't really noticed, but I guess depends where you mount it. I've recently relocated it to the top of rack in the back in preparation for Awning.
