what's going on dillahnski, Albert here from the Los Angeles area... I just bought a 2018 4Runner Trd off road its stock for now. will I have problems doing any trails in Anza with a stock rig? thanks

Hey there and congrats on the new rig! I think it's doable. Had a lift and tires installed prior, so I can't say from personal experience since that was my first time there. A lift's not needed, but having upgraded tires gave me peace of mind.

I saw several 5th gens as we drove through the park. Pretty sure they were stock.

However, if you plan on running Sandstone Canyon, I'd recommend having rock sliders installed if you want to go through one of the last obstacles.

Now's the time of year. We did 10 days in southern Utah last week, including Moab.

Shafer Trail (not technically difficult, but the nose-bleed/acrophobia factor was undeniable):

That looks like a really awesome place. I want to drive the 4Runner to the top and then gravel bike back down.

Then you would also like Moki Dugway near Garden of the Gods near Mexican Hat UT, and also Burr Trail Switchbacks in Capitol Reef NP.

I was always somewhat mesmerized by the expansive landscape of WYO. Stunning indeed.

It's hard to tell how steep the drops are from the pictures, but the drop from the highest level road to the next level down is pretty much a cliff in most spots (the top road is actually just below the wide band of lighter colored rock in the second picture). And the penalty for over-cooking the switchbacks going downhill (in any kind of vehicle) would pretty much be "game over". It's about a 1500 ft descent from the top to the White Rim Trail junction.

Here's a few more pictures of the road from Shafer Trail back to Moab (from the top in Canyonlands NP back to town is about 39 miles, half of it on dirt and rock, the rest along the Colorado River):

On the way back from hiking in Zion and Bryce, stopped at Snow Canyon State Park, just north of St George Utah, to hike and scramble along the Petrified Dunes trail. Had a blast!
