Those photos were taken at the Trona Pinnacles. You can get around the area in almost any vehicle, although that weekend it had rained recently and there were some low lying places outside the main loop where you could get stuck if you weren't paying attention.

Earlier in the day we took the nearby Mesquite Canyon Trail and explored all the side routes on our way to Burro Schmidt Tunnel. I definitely recommend that area, it was a blast but nothing too crazy for the brand new ride. Here's a pit stop after cresting a steep one (thanks ATRAC):

I past through beautiful downtown Trona in January coming back from DV; thanks to you and your pic, I will be heading back to Trona. I saw the pinnies from a distance, but did not think my Toyota Celica GT (1990) and 4.5' ground clearance could get me anywhere. I have a rapidly modifying 2nd Gen T4R now; bought bone-stock...not even a tow-hitch.

ps: You can buy a "livable" home in Trona, California for $20,000.
