4Runners in scenic places

How has the 4Runner compared to the Jeep? A guy on this forum a couple of weeks ago said that his built TRD OR 4Runner (on Kings, with all the armor) was only 40% as capable as a stock Rubicon. Which I find hard to believe.

No doubt that the Wrangler off the lot is alone at the top as far as wheeling goes, but 40%... after some serious mods? Based on my own experiences, that just can't be right. I'm just curious what your thoughts are.

The Jeep has a shorter wheelbase with better approach and departure angles. That will always be true, Kings or no. For doing Jeep things, Jeeps will be better suited. That includes, in my estimation, most serious off-road use.

That's fine, because those advantages come at other costs, such as daily drivability, interior space, and some others.

What about a Hilux in scenic places?

I will say the Rubicon on the rocks can't be beat especially on 35's or 37's. On any trail that you want to do at speed the 4R blows the Jeep away. I don't like the rocks so the Rubicon was no longer needed for me. Death wobble is real. Wind noise is awful.

For a daily driver, the 4R is hard to beat. Off road on rocks, the Rubicon is the best out there. As far as being 40% as capable, I would say that's about right on the rocks. Being able to lock both axles and disconnect the front sway bar is way too hard to compete with in an IFS vehicle. I've had the 4R for a month and I don't miss the Jeep at all.

In Coconino National Forest, on the highest point of Colton Crater with SP Crater in the distance. ... if you can spot the 4Runner in this very scenic place!!!

Unless you're talking Unlimited Rubicon which has a longer wheelbase than the 4Runner. I've had multiples of both... JKUR and JLUR and 2 5th gen 4Runners. Yes, the Rubicons are better at the rock crawling/severe stuff, but comparing stock to stock on most trails, the 4Runner Trail/OR/Pro is 95% as capable as a stock Rubicon. With the 4Runner off-road modes, even better than the Rubicons in some circumstances like snow and other slick stuff. Last fall, I bought my 8th Jeep and it was my dream Jeep... 2020 Rubicon Unlimited with every option I wanted... $59k sticker. It was great but it was still a Jeep. A week ago, I traded it and I'm back in a 4Runner.
