So I have a 4th gen 4runnner and im trying to figure out how I can get a sizeable amount of lift without breaking the bank. I know that once you get to around 3inches of lift suspension wise then it starts to get hair, but I know there are some other guys out there that have figured stuff like this out already. any help?

Thanks again!

Without breaking the bank, you will be under the 3" mark unless you go with a body lift too. I personally have Bilstein 5100's on the top setting, 1.5" Daystar lift in rear and a 2.5" body lift. If you want 3" with all suspension you are looking at coilovers and replacing the UCA because the angles will tear your stock balljoints apart. There's other options of course, but they all depend on what "breaking the bank" means to you. I have just under $800 total in my lift.

I have less than $200 in my 3" lift and the ride didn't change at all. I'm running a Daystar spacer 2 1/2" lift on the front and 1 1/2" on the rear and then a 1/2" body lift that I bought from a member on here that makes them. If I had it to go over again I would do a 1" body lift. I will eventually change my shocks out and go with 5100s and probably a tad more lift, but for now I'm extremely happy.

if you are 2wd you can get maxtrac spindles which will lift it 4 inches and you can go even more if you have adjustable coilovers. that is what i am running

How did you do a 2.5 inch BL? I thought the highest BL made was by RB and it was 1.5 inches? Also so in total youre at about 5.5 inches of lift?

RB will actually do all the way up to 3" if you email them. They will send you the extra lift price sheet. Same kit, just longer equipment to achieve everything. Yes, I am at 5.5" of lift between suspension and body lifts, then my tires are 5" over stock so they give me another 2.5". So I'm 8" over stock now.

How much more work was the 2.5 BL and how much extra did the 2.5 BL cost? very interested in this. Last question, Is the gap difference very noticeable then?

Wasn't any more difficult but the rear bumper cover will NOT stretch to stay over the inner metal bumper. I trimmed the bottom of mine and although it doesn't look exactly like I want, I will hopefully be doing something about it this summer. On the front bumper, if you pull the cover off you can unbolt the steel inner part and move it up on the mount and it will match up. You will have to ditch or replace the little plastic fender liners that hide the gap in between the frame and fender on the front no matter what BL size you go with. Most make them out of trash can plastic which is what I plan on doing this summer. You can use a heat gun or torch to heat and bend the plastic as needed.
I actually like the little gap I have in the rear fenderwell now because I can easily get in there with my power washer and clean the crud out. My tires do a really good job of hiding the gap from sight. You can see more frame on the side of my truck, but I don't have my running boards on anymore. This summer I will be putting sliders on and these will help hide that too.
All in all, I have no issues with it at all. Make sure you torque the bolts and re-torque them after a couple thousand miles just to make sure nothing has moved or settled. Mine did. Make sure you start with the body mount on the front of the truck as it didn't want to line up easily on mine. When doing the second side I started on the front and it went smoothly.
Oh, and the steering shaft spacer is a real B#%@!!! My suggestion is marking where the steering wheel is so you don't accidentally turn it to far and then screw up your wires inside. Extra PITA if you are 6'4" and 280+ like me! :D
Check out my build thread and you can see pics of what it looks like after the install. Body lift install is on pg 4, and some cleanup pics on pg 8.

Go ghetto and call it a day.

Put Daystar spacer lift on shocks with 100k+ miles that are preferably shot. Then Get 2, 2" BL's and stack em. Should give you about 6" give or take some. Get some 35's and call it good.

Hey if you're trying to be inexpensive about it, this definitely works. Not only that, but having run the daystar setup, it definitely gives you a bit more cushion in your ride

spindles if you are 2wd.

otherwise, if you are 4wd, if you want a decent ride when you are done with it, you cannot "go big" without spending decent money. best bet would be to look into a 6" kit designed for 07-09 FJs
