4th Gen Emergency Manuever FTW

So this just happened on the way back from lunch, some idiot on a 2 lane street tried to pass up a slow guy in his lane. He cut into my lane going about 50mph and I'm doing at least 40+ he almost hit me square on driver side to driver side. I have no idea what the hell this guy was thinking!

Threw the steering to the right, nudged the brakes some, VSC kicked right in, only a little tire squeal. 4Runner stayed planted to the road and did that emergency manuever beautifully.

So to those that criticize or even worry about the 4th Gen's handling ability in an emergency, I'll vouch for it every time.

And we're not talking a stock truck here, we're talking heavy, lifted and armored;

I would imagine very poorly and possibly even close to tipping like that Jeep in that Youtube Video someone posted on the forum a while back, I could feel the 4Runner squating into the turn, but all 4 wheels stayed on the asphalt.

Honestly I thought about tailing the guy and ..."polietly" educating him in proper driving etiquete. But I had to get back to work and I figured I would get myself in more trouble if I did that.

My friend suggests a "Cookie Law" for every stupid/dangerous driver you run off the road, you get a cookier from the DMV... why can't life be that simple?

Yeah that probably wouldn't have gone over too well. Some people just don't get it. Someone did that to me one time. Nearly scraped my bumper changing lanes so close and angrily. At the next light I pulled up next to him and just stared at him, the guy would not look my direction.

I few weeks ago some douche nozzle in a little coupe was coming up the opposite direction not paying attention (probably texting) came over into my lane and ran the car in front of me off the road, he looked up just in time to see me barreling down on him and realized that I was gonna run right over the top of his little crap car and jerked back over to his lane. I wasn't about to leave my lane. God I love my truck!

The idiots in my parking garage drive like it's Taladega right down the center of the drive. They also always look at you like an idiot because they have to slam on their brakes while they're doing their little NASCAR practice. I caught a woman today and actually thought "I wish she'd actually hit me when I have a Shrockworks." Everyone drives Beamers and Mercedes too (with a couple of FJ Cruisers thrown in that I can be jealous of). If they actually hit me with a real bumper, their car would fall apart.

Oh, I'm sure the 4Runner would have been fine, its just that at the speed we were both going the airbags would have popped. Last thing I need is burnt interior bits and airbag powder everywhere... that stuff is just bleh!

The Badass feeling you get when you drive a runner is just awsome. And this really makes me wanna get a shockworks or a CBI then people would be scared to crash into the truck :boxer: haha. Gotta love 4runners

Just watched a 5th Gear episode where they showed how nice (safe) it is to have a stability control system for those emergency maneuvers. On several equipped cars, the guy tried several times to get the vehicle to lose control and skid/slide with heavy jerks to the wheel. Then he tried it in a car without...and it skid right around. They had a stunt driver do it at 70+ and it skid sideways then rolled over.

Mine has the same lift and I always wondered how it would fare in a quick maneuver.

Glad to hear that nothing happened and you are ok. These trucks are nimble when they have to be. Surprising that a lifted truck handled so well.
