Custom front skid to protect your condensor. Since Toyota could not make one, I have. I would like to get an idea from you 4th gen guys how many and what you would be willing to pay for a custom skid plate.
Info: this is not a 3/16th skid. it is made from 12guage, all holes drilled and instructions included for how to mount.

Here is how it is available to you
bare steel
primed only
primed and painted satin black
production would start right around May 1st and would ship in order of payment recieved.

I cannot accurately access what a fair price for this should be as I have no expericence in what it would take to make one of theses and how it compares to other after market skid plates for other areas of the 4Runner. However, I can tell you that I would be interested in purcahsing one depending on what you settle on for a price. Hope someone responds with some more valuable insight than mine.

Its takes a few hours to make one. Like I said before, it's not one of the skids you can slam down on a boulder and walk away from. Its made of 16guage steel. I made this to keep from spending a boat load of cash later if something decided to jump up into my condensor or radiator in that huge open spot between the front bumper and radiator. I actually ran over a trash can last night which jumped out from no where and smacked it pretty good. Not even a chip of paint came off and luckly I had that plate on there becuase that's where it was stuck.
A little insurance now sure beats paying out the ying yang later.

The entire plate is 100% hand made in the USA including the sheet metal.

I can't figure out if your two photos are of the same plate or not. I'd rather have one painted black. No need for rubberized stuff. Can't comment on cost tho.

they are the same plate, just different points of view, on and off the truck.
 
Since the cost of metal keeps going up and having a plasma cutter programmed to do the cuts (or take your time and spend a couple hours on each) are equally adding to expense, would it be just as strong (or stronger) to make these out of Lexan? It is easy to work with and does come in colors and would not need paint, and does not rust.
 
i could get lexan from my work and have looked at many many differnet materials. trying to keep the costs down but still provide a good product at the end of the day.
 
Is this essentially the same thing as the Toyota front skid plate that some of 4Runners on this site are sporting? If so I just read a post on another thread that said they can be bought for $100-$115. I would think if you wanted sell a reasonable amount of these you'd have to beat that price. Altough I think the Toyota one only comes in stainless steal so you could add the appropriate costs for the different finishes you are offering.

EDIT. Just checked the Toyota one is 1/8" thick silver powder coated aluminum.

I think what you are reffering to are the plates from the Tacoma's and only cover the bottom lip of the bumper. Everyone I know that have those say they are weak and flimsy. The one I am working on goes between the bumper back to the stock engine skid. Aluminum or not, I feel that those are more so for looks, this one would off some protection for the a/c condensor and what ever else might be in that area. I could certainly beat the 100-115 range. Shipping would be a flat rate included in the price of the plate. Its such an odd size so that is where most of the costs would be in.
I plan on starting this around the 1st of the month. If nothing else, at least everyone that had one would have a bit of added piece of mind for protection of that area of the vehicle. I think the photo shows the plate you are talking about. Online they are around 135.

Well i planned on starting but the IRS decided to find me 5 years after an old babysitter decided not to file taxes and now I have to pay what she didn't. Flippin people!
Hopefully by the end of this month I will be able to get some started. Sorry for the delay for those that were interested. Stay tuned, I still plan on doing this.

no vest needed in my area but go west a few blocks and they issue crack pipes for free.
 
ok back to the grind.. i am ordering the steel this week and will have prices up next early next week.
Specs are somewhat as follows.
12g steel, 25 holes drilled for ventilation, 4 mounting holes drilled but you will have to remove factory skid to get this in and bend the u-shaped tab....you will see what I am talking about when you take the factory plate off.
For installatoni you will have to remove factory skid and unbolt the 4 bolts that hold the bottom of the front bumper to the end of the frame rail. it's pretty straight forward.
I plan on doing around 10 of these plates. Payments will be via paypal, cash or check.

Here is how the plate will be offered instead of the first ideas I had.
1)plane steel
2)Primer only so you can paint as you wish
3) primer and satin black
