4wd vs. 2wd in New Orleans

Hi all,

Since I just totaled my '99 4R limited, I am going to buy another one... My question is, since I could potentially buy either a '00 Limited 4wd OR another 99' Limited 2wd and, given the fact that I live in New Orleans, should I buy the 2wd or the 4wd? Both have almost the same number of miles (the 2wd has 175K, 4wd has 165K) and they are both limiteds, AND they are the same color (natural white) AND they both cost about the same $6000 vs. $6500, what do you guys think?

ps. sorry for the awkward phrasing; I can't really get around it.

Get the 4wd. It will have the multi mode transfer case. It will hold it value in the long run too.

If they're both in similar condition, I'd get the 4wd. You can always drive in 2wd with 4wd, but if you want to go say, camping, you can use 2wd on highways and 4wd on any trails.with 2wd you never have 4wd(obviously) in other words, you'll never feel bad with 4wd but you may regret 2wd in the long run. Keep us updated!

thanks guys, i was thinking the same thing as well. Since my parents are paying for this since i'm 17 and it's going to be my first car, i'll push them to get the 4wd since they are both the same price really... I'll let you know what happens

I'm in New Orleans myself (Uptown) and bought a 4wd on purpose. With the rain/flooding and debris, the 4wd will be great.

What happened to your 4Runner? Are you going to buy it back from the insurance company?
