4x4 ECM in a 2Wheel drive?

I have a 2 wheel drive 93 4runner with a 3vze. I noticed the there was a trans code 65 which was odd because that code would be for a 4x4 trans. I have been having a lot of problems with low idle, when I went to look at the ecm i noticed it was for a 4x4. I know the engine had been replaced by the PO. Does anybody know if this could be a problem?

I'd don't know for sure if it would be a problem, but if it's throwing a 4x4 problem code, clearly that issue can't be fixed if it's a 4x2, it seems like it might be. Do you suppose the code and the low idle are related?

Thanks for the reply. I finally fixed the low idle, I marked the idle screw and noticed it was rattling closed, replaced the O ring now its OK, I was wondering more about shift points, and stuff like that?

Well that's good that you got one problem fixed. I don't imagine that the shift points would be very different, if at all. BUT I really am not versed in transmissions, so I would take that with a grain of salt. Hopefully someone else who knows what their talking about will chime in. Good luck!

No I don't think that's what it is. I had a 2WD for years on these boards and was treated as an equal I think the issue is that this situation you have is very rare, so no one really knows.

4runner ecm repair

The ecm in the 4runner definately needs to be diagnosed and probably repaired. My 2002 4runner failed at 120,000 miles and I sent it to a company in Detroit Mi to repair it 4runner Ecm Repair

Yeah, but a 4WD ecm on a 2WD truck? It may never work quite right..

I was looking on e-bay there is so many different computers. the engine has also been replaced, not sure what year it is out of. How do i tell what computer i need?

I don't really know. Maybe you can post in the 3rd gen forum and ask them what they think?

I fixed the problem, found a 93 runner with a 3.0 2wd auto at pick and pull, and what do you know it still had the ECU, Switched them out and my slow idle went away, shifts better, no codes, and more power too.
