Got a question for y’all, I got to pick up a 3 year old niece from the airport with
my brand new 4 runner with leather seats. What are you guys using to protect the leather seats from dents and etc with the baby seat? I am not trying to ruin
the rear seats. I seen some seat protectors and wanted to see some install photos with your baby seat installed. Lol

ive just installed the baby seat w/out protection. the leather looks kind of jacked up when i remove the base, but after a day or so it returns to normal. so far at least.

I use a cheap carpet remnant from the local big box to protect the seat bottom. I’ve used a towel behind if needed, but usually just pull the carpet piece up enough to cover the seat and back. Bought a black one to match the seat. Good $4.00 investment. 2 kids later no marks on any seat I’ve used it on.

Mine were installed for 3 years in my Limited, after a week of them out they're pretty much back to normal again, although I'll keep finding Cheerios for another decade.

Bought two of these and are happy we did. I was using towels, etc but these are quick, easy to move to another car as necessary.

I would not bother with a protector. Minimize time and you’ll probably never know it was there after a couple days. I had one installed for a few years. Recently swapped to forward facing and moved it to other side. Can barely tell it was ever there.

Pics from my old 5th gen Limited. Leather held up after 2 years with the seats installed, after a week leather was almost back to normal.

Holy crap man!!! I wasn't expecting that. I will take a photo when I get mine installed. I got a convertible seat and going to try to use the middle seat by using the seat belt with the top tether. I also picked up a $13.00 seat cover from Wal-Mart. I haven't had one person rode in my rear seat yet. Baby. lol

If you are only going to have the car seat in for a short time you should be fine with no protection. I have 9 month old, however, and will have a car seat for the foreseeable future. I purchased a Chicco car seat cover on clearance for $10.

Like others have said, the seats go back to normal after a bit. We put our daughter's seat in before even leaving the dealer. Leather looks fine if I take it out for a day or two. Don't worry too much.

Well unlike most in this thread, I've found that child seats do leave permanent marks in seats, particularly leather. I've found it does get better after a few days, but there is always a mark left. I got these for my 4runner before I installed the child seats in. They have protective padding where the edges of the seats rest on the seat bottom and seat back:

It has red stitching that matches perfectly with the TRDORP stitching too.

If it's just for a few minutes it shouldn't be a problem, but if you're installing the child seat for a long time theres a chance that it will permanently deform the leather and seat cushion. It's cheap insurance to make sure your seats stay in good shape, and it's easy to clean off all the dirt that comes with sitting children back there lol
