5th Gen Alternator Rebuild kit? (for DIY)

Back in the day, in high school, we used to pull alternators (and starters) and rebuild them all the time. For about $20 in parts kit you could change the springs and brushes, maybe a bearing, etc. Clean the housing, slap it all back together, test it and good as new.

Having just recently installed my DC Power XP-270. I have a 130 amp part #27060-31190 alternator sitting here without a home. It has 80K on it and looking at the price of new alternators, I figured why not just rebuild it and either sell it or keep it as a spare.

It looks like for about $80, I can buy used alternators all day long. But rebuilt ones are going for $200+, new from the dealership is like $500!

Even taking it to a local shop to rebuild it might be economical, but I remember it being so easy, why pay someone to do it.

Has anyone done this? Does anyone know where I can source the parts I might need? I tried a few searches but come up empty. Google has failed me.:smashputer:

Looks easy enough. There's a thread in the 3rd gen section with a nice video at the end.
I didn't see any kits but all the parts look available. The bearing and brushes look reasonably priced.

Hhmm, that looks like a couple of the parts for sure. one bearing at least. I guess maybe I should tear this one open and see if it has brushes like I remember 30 years ago or maybe it's brushless...
