This looks like a great product, and I'm in if it will work in my 2016 Limited.

And what's a console safe?
 
The first batch of parts shipped to Amazon today. Looks like they will be ready to order maybe Wednesday of next week.
 
How deep is it? Or, asked another way, how much space remains in the bottom of the console when this hangs up top? Trying to gauge how much room I might have to multi-layer larger stuff on bottom and this tray on top.

And, you don't need to have the lower organizer, right? This works with or without it because it just hangs from the sides?

Last question - is the cigarette lighter in the console still accessible with this installed? Kind of hard to tell in the pic.
 
Is it possible to add a secure (not a lock) cover on it so when you take it out to get something below it, all your stuff in the tray doesn't spill all over? Maybe sliding covers?

Good questions! I added to the original post.

The tray pockets are 2" deep. There is 1.5" between the top of the lower console and the bottom of the tray. Yes, it hangs from the top so the lower organizer is not needed. Yes, power ports are accessible with the tray installed to let cords through but you will not be able to get your hand past the tray. The tray position is set by the coin holder in the front.

The trays are officially available on Amazon. They are listed as in stock on 9/22 but I was able to order one today.
