I woke at 2:00 am to the sound of footsteps in the house. Fortunately, after 31 years of marriage, I recognized them to be my wife…so I did not grab my gun.

Background: My wife has been up at our ranch in Montana taking care of things like taxes, contractor bids, medical. I’ve been at our SoCal home doing that thing called work. Wife was expected to arrive Friday afternoon, but she does like to pull surprises on me. She came home with a couple additional surprises: 1) New 4Runner Off-road Premium; 2) Acetone, which has been banned in California.

Mama should have called, but she clearly made up for it. Congrats on the new 4Runner!

If California “leaders” had their way they would ban everything useful and tax what remains.

Acetone illegal? What… just bought that exact can at Home Depot in San Diego yesterday.

Went on a road trip to Utah, and saw this roadside exhibit somewhere in the cali desert off hwy 15, that you don't normally see. I can't or won't go into the backstory on this forum, but the backstory behind this sculpture is extemely sad.

Took my wife’s 2014 SR5 over Skalkaho pass in Montana. Intent was to fly fish upper Rock Creek, but I never got there as the fishing on the upper West Fork of Rock was too good. On the way back there were no tourists taking pictures of Skalkaho Falls, so I stopped and took pictures of “Priscilla” with 333.8K on the odometer. I’d normally take my ‘99 K2500 Suburban diesel, but the lift pump went out. New pump is ordered, but it will be Labor Day weekend before I can get to it.

P.S. Fishing for West Slope Cutthroats was nearly automatic. Started about 2:00 pm and ended up releasing about 20 fish for 3 hours effort. Most came on Golden Stone Flies, some on a Perdigon dropper.

One of my best friends (and fellow snake collector!) in college had parents and a grandmother that lived in Big Bear. His parents were like second parents and lived just above Boulder Bay. Many's the time we walked down there and caught a limit on pink Zeke's Garlic Cheese off the point! Tried to avoid the "tourist" seasons (summer and winter)!

BTW: The road by the "Cement Factory" used to be real good for collecting scorpions-saw the biggest one of my life down there. We also collected a (dead) Mitchell's rattler-only one I've seen in my life outside of a zoo.

You can tell the scorpion apart from lizards in the headlights by their tail: The scorpions drag theirs's straight behind, while the lizards carry their curled like a stinger.
