I washed and waxed my Trail this weekend. Here's a few updated photos. Tax, license and registration in Kalifornia killed me so no upgrades yet.

I really like your TE in grey, almost went that route but the only TE's in the Midwest were black or red.

I really wanted silver so that I could beat it up more and not notice it (especially swirl marks!). I'm already seeing rock chips and small paint scratches from idiots in the parking lot.

My wife liked the black a lot but I was afraid it would be even harder to keep clean. But, nothing shines like a black car!

those look good bigbwb. I may have to go this route with my sr5. I definitely like the look of the tubular boards over the stock boards.

I've convinced myself to go the SR5 route rather than a TE, but when I wanted a TE...I envisioned tube step boards just like that.

Now I wonder how it will look with an SR5 when the SR5 has that extra piece of trim running between the wheel wells (under the door sills)...

Yes. I was deadset on removing them until I received the vehicle. I think it accents the lines too well. Also, I've seen gray ones without the stripes and they look cheap. Plus, the line from side to hood is softer without the pinstripes and I like the harder edge.

For every other color, I think the pinstripes are a negative. But for the gray, it's a definite plus.

I have a pinstripe on my grey Venza; I had the same initial opinion too. It was a "surprise" that it was on my Venza already when I picked it up (it had a pinstripe and wheel/door edge moldings included at no additional cost since they were already on the car). I even researched all the ways to remove it (hair dryer, pinstripe tape remover, etc.).

After awhile, I grew used to seeing it and now when I look at other grey Venzas, they look "plain" to me.

For my next vehicle, would I pay to add it on? No. Do I like the way it looks on the 4Runner -- not really (sorry). But I agree that it kind of grown on you...

Wait... your new TE came with those shoes? How's that possible? Or did you make a trade/deal with the dealer?

My dealer was kind enough to trade them out for the BFG AT's pre-delivery. Cost me $700 net of the trade for the stock tires. I guess they gave me about a $300 credit for the stock shoes. I was pleasantly surprised that they did it, since they're one size larger than stock.

5th gen looks nice but kinda over rated i have 3rd gen and it works fine but nice truck depending on what you wanna do with it

I hear you. I still have my 98 and still love it - 300K miles and still runs and looks great, only been stuck once, and I'll never part with her - she's just been put out to pasture. But technology has passed her by. The offroad capabilities of the 5th gen just surpass the abilities of my old girl. I did a figure 8 on a steep narrow ditch diagonally last night and the KDSS worked as advertised - not a single wheel ever lost contact with the ground or spun. From 12 years of off road experience with my 98, that never would have happened with the old girl.

Plus I am a bit spoiled with all the extras - the locking rear diff, ATRAC, the Iphone docking and bluetooth phone capabilitity, nav system. Heck, my 98 doesn't even have a CD player. I'll admit that the Trail is complex - with my 98 all I had to do when I hit the dirt was shift the short lever to 4H. Now I have to disengage TRAC, disengage VSC, disable the side airbags, put in in 4WD and perhaps activate ATRAC and the rear locker. It's definitely a more complex machine. I hope I get the same service life out of this one as I did my 98 - it's been as close to perfect as I could have asked of a truck.
