7 Day Sirius Theft

:sadwave:

Man, I bought this thing last week. Proudly installed it, wired everything through the vent for a 100% clean install. Some SOB got it last night despite me being awake until 4am with the window open (if blinds were open, 4runner would be in view, 10 feet away). Heard nothing.

No signs of forced entry anywhere and I know it was locked as I checked my windows when it started to rain last night and relocked. Hell, my dome lights were still set to 'Door' so it must have been a really quick snatch and run.

Thankfully my CB, cb mic, android phone running torque, head unit, amp & sub, etc. were all in place. Figures the one day I park on the street, making room for my new truck in gated parking spot, some loser decides to steal.

A) Anyone know where I can get the vent pictured with the cords hanging out

and B) anyone have recommendations on an interior dash cam, or any other anti theft ideas?

Obviously not parking in a crappy area is a start, but that's where I live. Having a vehicle that doesn't stand out also helps, but that can't really be changed either - and hell, I have nothing flashy visible to the outside short of my wheels and CB antenna. Windows are already tinted extremely dark, must have flash lighted through the windshield.

In any event, RIP Sirius. I somewhat enjoyed you for the week I had you :hippie:

1blink - yeah, could have been worse. Took my Tacoma to work and parked it there (8 foot fences all around, access card entry) until I deliver it to new owner, so 4runner is safe and sound behind gate at my apartment. Sucks the parking area in my yard only fits two cars, means girlfriend's brand new Forester has to sit on the street, seems like thieves don't have any interest in the stock/newer cars around here.

Thanks much kenworth, will definitely be in touch! I ordered a replacement radio and will come up with a better mounting location this time around.

I think it's typical for thieves to target older vehicles. Especially if they can see what's inside (non-tinted windows). Even if the windows are tinted they can see in but with a window shade up it's hard to without a flashlight. And someone peeking in a car window is suspicious.

Older vehicles tend to have easy to "rip-out" upgrades, especially like head units and stuff. It's usually either a snatch-and-grab or a complete theft. That's why they left your CB and all that stuff.

A.) they don't know the value of it
B.) they don't know how to remove it
C.) they're petty, probably some high school punks or someone who needs a quick couple $100 bucks

I'd get on craigslist and look for newly posted sirius units. Then i'd ask for pictures. Find your unit, find your crook. Get shovel, make them dig grave.

Yeah, much easier to steal aftermarket stereos than rip out a new car's dash to get to the worthless factory radio.

But yeah, I've been checking Craigslist. This one is a match date wise, cept they didn't get any accessories. Just the onyx (onyx plus) and dock. If the listing said "No accessories" I'd be much more suspicious, but doubt any thief has a stockpile of extra sirius antennas, power adapters, and aux cables

Sirius XM Onyx Dock and play Radio w/ all accessories

Ah well, new one arrived today. Gonna mount in a better location and stay true to my 'no street parking ever again at my apartment' thing

I got a rock tossed at my Outback windshield in my alley parking space last year. Random dbaggery.

So weird what your thief did take vs left behind. Clearly not a Rhodes Scholar candidate.

I have nothing visible inside, totally stock. Plus full tint. Plus cargo cover. Nothing to see = nothing to steal, fingers crossed.

Trying to figure out a stealth CB antenna install so as not to announce to all of the vermin "hey, I have a cb radio thats worth about $10 at a pawn shop".

Maybe a Glock sticker or 2?

for me one time was enough to become a statistic. ever since then i install a alarm remote starter, pager and recently i do some extra stuff drone mobile and add in extra mini sirens under each side of my front foot wells.

thieves do not have boarders, they dont have boundries, thieve can travel, they are at the mall, the movies, your favorite restaurants, they everywhere, they can be black white orange pink green yellow fat skinny tall short...it can be me lol.

i feel you just never would know if you could have prevented it if you have a better security system, but for piece of mind...i feel better to have the ability to be notified when a threat is occurring!

personally, i think it was luck of the draw your car got broken into. if it wasnt you that night it would have been someone else. that theif was out to get something that night and you were easy prey. you said it yourself you had other valuables that the thief missed. consider yourself lucky, unfortunately we have to take steps to protect what is ours.

Possibly - I think this happens somewhere in this hood every night :moping:

What area you living in?

The Five Points... in an area that's 3/4ths safe compared to a couple years ago, but still a lot of sketchy happenings.

Sucks brother sorry! I can't stand a damn thief!!! Do you or are you now installing the loudest alarm system you can buy?

Happened to me a few years ago when I lived in Congress Park. Nothing stolen, not sure what made them run, but broken window and ripped-up dash.

Got a 2-way alarm with shock and glass shatter sensor. They can break the window but I'll be out there in 15 seconds when my fob starts going off. Has really given me some peace of mind.

Nah, just never parking on the street in front of my house again. I only did it because I picked up a new truck and my gated parking spots in my back yard only fit two (have 3 vehicles now). 4runner got the street treatment because it's oldest, the new truck obviously deserved gated spot, and the third vehicle is my Tacoma which I'm selling (driving 1,000 miles to new owner this Friday) and I didn't want the taco to get side swiped or anything stupid in its last week of ownership.

I may look in to better alarms in the future but being a DIY guy I'm kind of intimidated by the process and couldn't bare to pay for an installation. Anyway, after I get back from delivering Tacoma (and the 4,500 mile road trip), I won't have to worry about it again as there will always be a spot for it in back. I've been leaving the taco or 4runner at work (also gated, entry key access) in the mean time.

knock on wood, lets hope you dont become another statistic again :D

i hate thieves!

That sucks. Thankfully they didn't rip your center console apart too much. Looks like the center piece is still in one piece.
