Time for an oil change based on the months than mileage. Oil looks as new and very transparent. Do I have to replace the oil filter too? or should I wait till it clocks 2000 miles to do oil and filter?
Filter: Toyota
Drive 5 miles each way

Thanks

Are you expecting to continue driving it at this rate, about 110/miles a month? If so and it were mine, I'd use full synthetic and change it at 1 year intervals but would be tempted to go longer.

Only thing that would make me alter that plan is if you do lots of short 5 mile trips where the engine doesn't get fully warmed up allowing moisture to evaporate out of the oil. In that case perhaps you should change it every 6 months.

In other words, I'd let the driving style dictate the oil change interval. Luck and enjoy the runner. :cowboy:

I don't think you need to replace the filter based on your report, especially if it's a quality filter like Toyota or Mobil 1.

I have changed the oil but not the filter many times on my 4runner and never had an issue. Ive been changing my filter regularly lately but from 2010-2013 I was changing my filter once a year averaging 12,000 miles a year. I was using the Mobil 1 15,000 mile filter.

Alright, I'll get new oil in but will keep the OEM filter to make a full year.
I was thinking what to do in the past few days and got the answer in few minutes thanks to you all!

IMHO, at 7 months and 800 miles, you are wasting time and money even thinking about changing your oil and filter

There is no reason to change oil because of time spent sitting in an engine, unless it's been many years and you have moisture and condensation in the engine or the engine has been sitting not sealed.

I just changed my oil. If I had done it at the suggested time it would have been changed last August.

So if you took a quart of oil....put it in a jar....let it sit for a year....it has less ability to lubricate than if it sat in the original container? It also looks like you change your oil at 3000 miles. IMO the idea that oil needs changed based on time has no scientific facts to support it. The 3000 mile oil change is slightly more advantageous. Sure if it sat for 20 years but that is not what we are talking about. Change the oil when the mileage/degradation requires it.
