861 vs 891 vs Superflex Coils for rear weight

With tall coils 4"+ you can over compress the rear shock blowing them out. Also risk of a coil popping out on trail with stock bump stops and tall coils.

Stock sway bar links will hold up travel. They will break I the trail when they start stretching. 2nd gen 4runner rear links are 1" longer and work great. I run moog in the rear.

With 4"+ rear lift the panhard will be at a drastic angle causing bump steer to be a lot worse. The rear axle will also be pushed over about 3/4" with that lift.

I would do the first 2 mods. Drive it without panhard adjustment, see how it drives and go from there.

Thanks for this info. I'm looking for part numbers now.

Anyone have recommended parts or vendors for extended bump stops or panhard mods?

Need bump stops next. Budget recommendations please for potential 5" of rear lift?

What shocks are you going to be running? I don't think you'll be at much risk of losing a coil at full flex with the 861s, so collapsed shock length is going to be the determining factor for how low your bumps need to be.

I'm about to order these rear sway bar end links for a 2nd gen 4R.

I use those same moogs and they have held up two full seasons of wheeling.

Here are some suggestions on bump stops. I have the SS and love them.

4Runner (96-02) Super Soft Rear Bump Stops $150.00 & $13.45 USPS - $163.45 : Sonoran Steel, Sonoran Steel Custom Metal Fabrication L.L.C. Custom Toyota Truck Parts

These you will have to add bump stops to complete them or just reuse the stock hard as a rock bump.

Here is an awesome weld in kit to level the panhard and its a local member. This will mostly realign the rear axle and you may not need an adjustable bar.

I suggest this panhard bar (if needed) as it comes with poly bushings that will out last heims.

4Runner - Fully Adjustable Trac/PanHard Bar (1996 to 2002) - $199.99 : Sonoran Steel, Sonoran Steel Custom Metal Fabrication L.L.C. Custom Toyota Truck Parts

Thanks for the links!

This is getting pretty expensive...$160 for bump stop brackets?!?
There's gotta be a cheaper route.

What about these bump stops...I see reviews from guys with 2nd gen Tacomas

To recap, it sounds like in order to run 861 coils I need the following:
-extended rear brake lines
-extended rear bump stops
-extended rear sway bar links
-panhard relocate/adjustable panhard
-longer rear shocks

What else?

I had to extend the parking brake cable bracket too.

In regards to the vibrations, are the cone spacers being used? If not, maybe that could be why? Just a thought.

I did not have mine in, but A.Wilson013 did and he had the same noise. The cone spacer only isolates the body from the springs, the springs themselves vibrate and resonate causing the noise.

Thanks for letting me know. I cancelled 20mm and ordered 16mm wrap.

No problem!

That weld in kit is what I would do if I ever do anything with my panhard. I've been running it stock now for 40k miles of lifted driving.

Never lost a coil on mine at full flex with LC shocks in the back. I have extended bumpstops, but they stop at the limit of the shock anyway.

Well rear brake lines are more so limited by what shock you use. The shock is what dictates your range of travel.

What year is your rig? 01-02 have two rear brake lines, earlier have only one. You can bend down the center brake line bracket to gain a little room. This is what I had to do because I couldn't get the top flare nut loose and I didn't want to totally destroy it. Mine is an 01 so I did that to the center one and was able to replace the one on the driver side with an extended one.

You can buy those SS extended bump stops, buy the Toytec bump stop spaces, or make your own extended bump stops like I did. I sold a few extra sets I made back then. I've been debating making another round of them as well.

Rear sway bar links are a must. I'd either go with those 2nd gen ones, or get a universal Energy suspension kit and make your own like I did.

If you are already running shocks for 3" of lift I don't think you will need or find anything longer that will fit easily.

I had to extend the parking brake cable bracket too.

This is also a good point. Only needed on 96-00 though. The bracket doesn't fit 01-02 because of the stability control stuff we have.

List to accommodate 861s is now as follows:
-extended rear brake lines
-extended rear bump stops
-extended rear sway bar links
-panhard relocate/adjustable panhard
-longer rear shocks
-extend parking brake cable bracket

This is sounding like more trouble than it's worth. Definitely a lot more expensive than I would have thought.
I'm looking at upwards of $800!

You can make them yourself. You want to lower them 3" at least for those coils. Then add those bump stops to the lowered bracket. Those will compress and not actually lower anything.

To do it right yes its expensive. I have all on your list except I'm running a panhard adjustable bar with no relocation. To get mine perfect I still need the brackets.

I also dont have the parking brake bracket. I just took the bolt off the bracket. Brake didnt work anyways.

My Toytec 3" lift coils are sagging in the rear from excessive weight. Steel bumper, 300lbs of cargo, and sometimes towing a side by side ATV or small enclosed trailer.

This truck is used on and off road. Sometimes pretty hairy terrain. Can anyone with experience with these coils share your experience?

My front end is lifted 3". Would like to have a slight rake or sit level. Right now I have a slight reverse rake.

I asked Toytec and they haven't been super clear about which coil is right, having recommended 861s, 891s, and mentioned that Superflex may work too.

My understanding is that 861s may be TOO much lift. I saw another thread where one guys rear end was at about 4.5" of lift. I don't want that much. Max of 4" empty is what I'm shooting for.

Any suggestions?

UPDATE:
I've been running 861s for 2 months. With my cargo, front and rear are level at 3" over stock. I actually need STIFFER rear springs. Truck rides rough again after the coils have broken in. It was smooth at first when coils were new!

I might be interested in your 861’s if you want to get rid of them.

Airbags are in your future if the 861's aren't cutting it. Get some cheap bags for 100 bucks and run them at a few psi. It works well for the extra weight and they are adjustable to varying weight.

Nah, I had Airlift 1000 for a couple years. Not a quality setup. Firestone is better but they don't fit in most ome springs.

Airbags are for supporting tongue weight of a trailer and leveling the truck. Not made for 24/7 support of the truck and not made for offroad.

can someone point me in the direction of where i can purchase the ome 861's please...i gooble to order, and get sent in a million different directions...:mad2:
