There is a 1990 4runner for 2,000 in town. Got the 3.0 v6 4x4,Runs, no problems and has service records from 92 till now, my only issues with it is milage at 270k, and they were know as unsafe (doors and roll over).I have always wanted a older 4-runner and I would like to use this as a backup for my daily driver and as a go to for snow and ice. My questions are 1. Is it worth the price, 2. Is there anyway to fix the safety issue (i.e.new doors/ weights), and how much would I invest in a engine replac/rebuild. Thanks for your time

buy it 2000 is a good price especially with all the service records. I have 2 91's. As far as the unsafe things i have never heard any of that. Any SUV technically can be said that it has a roll over problem be cause of how they are built. if your real concerned about rolling over you can always upgrade sway bars or put weight plates on the floors to keep more weight low. i have taken mine offroad over bumps and stuff and had a tire off the ground and never felt like it was going to go over. as far as doors never heard anything about having door problems

The 1st and 2nd gen 4Runners got the "unsafe" label because SUVs were just hitting mainstream as popular daily drivers and hordes of sheeple who had no idea how to drive a high clearance vehicle were rolling them due to driving them like a sedan or station wagon. Drive it like a truck and you'll be fine.
