So, I went mudding a few months back and by "mudding", I mean I went through the woods tearing up mud puddles. This lasted 15 minutes before my truck started to act.... weird and not wanting to shift.
Back story... My ABS light was on and I needed a sticker in the windshield. I took the dash cluster out and removed the ABS bulb. Tada! Only... now my speedo and odometer don't work. I took it to the inspection place any way... Hurrah! No one noticed I didn't have a working speedometer. The guy even drove it in... :lookout:
As I was leaving with my new sticker, I picked a friend up and we went to go play in the mud (still no speedo or odometer, but I wasn't worried because I had just disconnected something in the cluster and I figured anything behind that bulb wouldn't work). No problem, I have GPS that tells me how fast I am going, right?
Upon leaving the mud, my transmission refused to shift past 2nd gear. So this is how I drove her home. Once home, I connected everything behind the cluster and it fixed NOTHING. I ASSumed the transmission was letting go (Hell, she had 250K on her... you would have too!) so I bought another. Installed it and it was bad from the get go. Ordered another. Had a mechanic install this one. Still no speedo or odometer. Now I have a blinking OD light in my dash. This comes and goes.
She still acts "weird" with the new transmission.
-When cold, she doesn't want to downshift AT ALL. She just bogs at 2K. OD light blinks.
-When warmed up, she shifts just fine through all gears, and even down shifts. Sometimes the OD light blinks. Sometimes not.
-When hot, she can't decide what gear she wants to be in at 50-55mph. OD light does what it wants...
-When I hit the OD button on the shifter, she will not downshift when the gas is mashed, and she will not enter over drive.
-Cruise control doesn't work- "Naturally, I'm going zero, dumbass." says Bertha to her driver as she flew down the highway at zero mph...
I cannot find a speedometer cable to save my ASS! :O I read that Toyota stopped making them? Can I really change my speed gauge to a 92 and use a 92 speedo cable? :nerd:

TL;DR Summary:
I replaced my tranny and now I have no speedo, odometer, cruise control, and my OD light blinks when it wants. She doesn't shift right when cold or hot. I cannot find a speedometer for my truck now either.
If one more person tells me to "scrap her", I will punch them in the mouth... :help:
