906's and shock woes

Don't know that part #'s off the top of my head. But really surprised they'd bottom out with 906's, that's a pretty high spring rate spring.

I agree with Pit and I don't know those part numbers off the top of my head either, but I really, really doubt you're bottoming out. What makes you think that's what is happening?

Yeah, bottoming out means you are FULLY compressing the rear springs. You'll hit the bump stops before you do that.
I wonder if those springs are just stiff enough that you feel the hard jolt over bumps and assume you bottomed out. With no extra weight in the back, 906's are pretty stiff.
When you installed the shocks, did they seem like they were really compressed even at rest? I wonder if you somehow got shocks that were way too long. The installed shock length, at rest, should be quite a bit longer than when they are compressed all the way.

ok. what i mean is that the shock doesn't seem to have enough travel for the coils. perhaps it's that they are stiff and new. but when i installed the shocks at the top, come to think of it, i didn't have to compress it much at the bottom to bolt it on to the diff, maybe 2 inches at best. when i have done shocks in the past on other cars and trucks, i had to compress them a lot to bolt them in.

I don't remember how much I had to compress mine, but I do remember a fair bit of effort to get them on the lower mount... 2" sounds wrong.

I just checked your part #'s, those are the correct shocks. I'm betting it just feels rough because those shocks are stiff until they break in and those springs have a real high spring rate. Plus, the old sh*t you took out was probably beat so it was real soft. Give them a few weeks and report back.

man, the coils and shocks were so bad the bump stops were 1/4 inch from the diff! now it's like 3 inches! perhaps it is because the components are new. i will remove the shock from the bottom mount and check how much travel they have.

Don't bother. They're the right shocks. Just let everything settle.

i have 5100's on order. now i need to find tundra front coils. $300 from the dealer is a no no. i'd be happy with nice used ones, which where i live, there aren't any.
