91 4runner middle diff?

I have a 91 4runner v6 4wd and i am wondering if i has a middle differential. if so i am also wondering if it locks when in 4 high? and also when in 4 low.

No centre differential on 2nd gens. No locker either from the factory, diffs are open front and rear.

I'm curious if this changed on the 3rd, 4th, 5th gens where they had lockers in front/rear? Maybe electronic locking.

Also what's the diff between 4-LO and 4-HI?

4LO is a lower gear range that creates more torque. If you ever put it in Low you'll feel the difference right away. Hi range is 1:1, Lo range is a 2.xx:1 reduction (differs with year/model).

A rear locker (the Toyota electric locker) came with some packages (TRD ?) in some years, never in the front axle, IIRC.

Newer models with more sophisticated electronic 4WD and AWD traction systems have a center diff that can vary power to front and rear axles.
